This one powers up but has garbage on the screen. I'm thinking A board fault.

I thought tom66 was suffering from the MC201 module but it seems it's not the problem.
In any case, the problem this module suffers from is the cap between legs 11 and 13 of IC TEA1611T.

Referring to your request, tom66, there is no mention to what you say. The closest thing is to replace MIP3A and the fuse on the standby power supply. But I guess your fuse is right and don't need to replace MIP3A.
Thanks, I did get mine going for a while after reflowing that cap, so I'll try what you say as i can should be able to get that cap off with the module in place.

I've got new TEA1611 ic and caps but I thought the cap ws the culprit just did not expect to learn it's not needed.

Friend has two lasting 4 and 5 months with just that cap on MC201. They are very nice TVs, the only thing I do not like is the black level is too high. The pro monitor should look nice, if I can get it.

Unusual display fault that's for sure with a band either side

Huh? The pro monitor, yeah, I think that's 4:3 display though, it probably more to do with colour bands along the display when running.

              ...The mystery deepens.

Here, I was able to get a scope shot of the AC detect signal both during fault and after it (with set operating and producing interference.) Unfortunately, as can be seen, it is not a DC signal, therefore my idea of using a relay will NOT do the trick.

I think that one of the small ceramic caps on the AC detect board may be bad, one of the ones on the input AC lines, because it is asymmetrical. It appears to be on the negative edge of the AC wave.
