    pdp-503mxe fan abnormality

I am currently looking at this set, description states it will power on for 6 secs then shuts down to standby with a 5 blink error code. After looking at a support document this indicates a fan abnormality.

How easy is it for this to be repaired and what are the general causes of this failure?

    Thanks in advance

Look in the vent holes. Are all the fans running? Hie about when it powers off. Does one fan stop immediately?
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Each fan has a logic output indicating whether it is running or not. A logic LOW output from the fan indicates it is not running.

I have bits of the PDP-502MXE sitting in my shed... but that's at home and I won't be able to get to them for a few months. But, if you get stuck for parts, including possibly a fan then I have them.

It's only a plasma monitor - no tuner, no HDMI (component and VGA only.)

If i were to send the correct input to the logic sensor even without the fan working would the set power up? If so could I not just install a standard fan and splice the lines with the correct resistor to feed the power to the logic sensors?

** Hmm second thoughts that would not work as if the fan did fail the power would still be sent to the sensors and the TV would run without the fan working... I'll just find a fan! LOL***

You can override the fan check on this model (I believe) by holding down MENU or INPUT button while it powers up. It gives you 30sec~1min to check the service menu for abnormalities before shutting down.
