    Problems with Insignia 42" Plasma

    Hi
    I'm a retired Electronics Tech.
    Used to repair Crt TV's
    First time posting

    I Have a 2006 Insignia 42" plasma NS-42EPTV internally an LG PDP42V7xxxx

My first symtoms were like the slow startup thread on your site.

When powered on screen was (black spray painted) over about 3/4 to 6/8 of the surface. picture was/is good where ever the pixels weren't black.
Over approx. 2-5 minutes the black pixels would slowly turn to a good picture.
TV ok after this until turned off.

    Checked voltages via internal labels
    all 5VA=5.2v Va=65v Vs=187v
    187/-80/120/n.a./165

I assumed -80v was the -Vy and the 120v was the VSC and
the 165v the ZSUS voltage. all as shown good.

Did not notice any bad caps dryed out or ballooned.
Sorry no picture of screen due to new problem arising see next.

When TV is powered on, red light turns blue as normal some OSD display, but as sone as HDMI input switches on, the light go red and Tv is off. Also the red led on the power board LED601 in on. I have to cycle the power to reset so I can try again.

Also with no picture input and turned on the TV will stay on and the OSD and Menus can be scrolled through.

    Any help would be welcomed.

It sounds like a bad zsus board to me. Bad ipm under the big heat sync.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I see on Ebay repair kits for my ZSUS board
6871QZH049B but no replacement board with the same ver#.
Is this chip a surface mount and hard to solder/replace?

Can you post a pic of the screen in this state? there are two sections to an ipm module. Sustain and erase pulse. Is the screen dimly lit with a reddish hue to it the whole time?

And what did you find fir vs va and vscan? I didnt understand what you typed. Also with tv in for a little bit feel ysus ipm heat sync and zsus heat sync. Is the zsus cool to the touch?

Re: Problems with Insignia 42" Plasma

            Sorry

I checked all the voltages and they were OK as labelled
            Va=65v
            Vs=187v

I am not sure where to find what you call vscan or what its value is?

            Internal sticker as follows:

            Va=65v Vs=187v 5v=5.2v
            187/-80/12o/N.A./165

            I assume -Vy= -80v, VSC=120v, and ZSUS=165v
I don't know proper name for ZSUS voltage.
            All these voltages measure correct.

Re: Problems with Insignia 42" Plasma

Now if I unplug P1 on the ZSUS board and power up with the input signal on HDMI, the TV stays on with a very dim picture and good sound.

I can't keep TV on long with no picture signal, TV auto shuts off.

Yep. Zsus shorted. Replace zsus or it sounds like you have soldering experience. Ever replaced an stk module in a projection screen tv? This is like x2.

                    Hi

I removed Zsus board and resoldered the pins on the electrolitic's and on the main IC as well

When I reinstalled the board the TV's up and running again, needing some adjustments for sparkels

I am going to resolder the Ysus board soon and then I would like to tweek the volatages to remove any sparkels

Do you know how this model can be put in test mode

                            Hi

Ive gotten the plasma working again, after resoldering the Zsus and Ysus boards
                            and tweaking voltages slightly.

Now I'm back to the original problem of having the black spray painted look at power up ,which will disapear after approx. 4-5minutes of being on.

                            any Idea's?

Looks like a Z-sustain problem, check Vzbias voltage.
Could also be low Y-sustain Vset voltage.

only pot on Zsus board i believe should be 165volts by sticker
I have to make it 173.2 to get rid of sparkles in the top left side of screen
                                  once screen has cleared up.

                                      Thank you Tom66

I downloded the file and I'll read through it and test the voltages.
It'll take me another day or so

                                      Thanks again

                                        Hi Again

I finally had time to look at the TV again.

This time I removed the PowerSuppy Board to try resoldering.

I found that a small (titanium cap ?) capacitor C529 had burnt up on the board.
I cannot identify its type and or size/value.

Im posting some pictures to see if anyone can give advice.
Note Diodes D511,D514 & D515 are all OK.
