    Samsung LE32M87BD: Blinking Red Light

    As in title.

We bought used power supply off ebay but same issue. upon first opening the TV, I saw a swollen cap. So I changed it but same issue. Went on ebay and bought two used power supplies but same issue.

I do not know if I was sold two faulty psu's OR the main av board is faulty. Would it be the psu or av board?

I have yet to try. I'll report.

      Thanks.

      Edited:

The area that has the voltages: 12v, 13v, 5.3v and GND. No voltages there. But GND does work as in I get a short for ground. So I got another faulty PSU? F Me!

No, not necessarily. Check the PS ON signal. If that's not triggering, the main board is bad. Do you have ANY voltages on the connector?

I have no machine to test signals.

Only 5.3v on the stand-by pin.

I need other 12Vs and othe 5.3Vs. So I assume the PSU is bad. But not sure what to change.

You have a voltmeter, that's what you need. Just read the voltage on the PSON relative to ground.
The other signals will not come up until the PSON signal reads LOW (on these Samsungs.) LOW means less than approx 2V.
Likely, all your power supplies have been OK.

Ok. But the only voltage on the connector is the standby light of 5.3v. Nothing on the "on-off" pins.

What pins do you have? Labels or picture please.
And ON/OFF is backlight control. You are looking for PS ON.

                    ST-BY is the same as PS_ON, <1V = OFF, >2V = ON
                    ON/OFF is the same as BL_ON (Backlights ON), <1V = OFF, >2V = ON
Both of those signals are generated by the Main board.

Thanks for that. So in other words, all the previous PSUs where working and that the main board is at fault?

If you do not have the those two signals, then we know one thing is that the main board is not working, but we also need to verify that the power supply and the inverter are OK. Leave that connector unplugged and power up the TV to see if the backlights will come on, I am not sure if this power supply has the built-in pull up resistor for the STBY and the ON/OFF pins or not, if not, then you have to forc them on by using 1 K resistor between STBY pin and 5V, and another 1K resistor between ON/OFF pin and 5V to force on the power supply and backlights.

Well the back light tries to come on once, then you get the blinking red standby light. The red light shows when the main board is connected the the psu obviously

The error lights (blinking LED) indicate that there is fault some where after the TV try to start up, then it goes into shutdown, that is why the PS_ON and the BL_ON are not there after the fault. TOM66 may have the service manual for this model.

Hi, The SSB boards of this series are known to be failing at the video decoder chip due to overheating. You may disconnect the LVDS câble going to the T-Con which sometimes has problems and makes the SSB board to shut off power. When disconnected, form the T-Con, the TV should power up if the fault is in the T-Con.
                              Good luck.

                                  FIXED!
The problem is the little metal cap on the control board (not main!!) top right 1mfd, 50V.
After replaced with a normal electrolytic cap 1mfd 50V TV is working again!
                                  Have fun!
