    NEC 42VM3G Plasma Green sparklies

    Hey Guys,

Ill post pics when i get home later but i have a 42VM3G Plasma with heavy green sparklies all over the screen. When i got this plasma it had this fault and i replaced the Scan Board P/N 942-200432, and it was fixed. after 6 months it went POP and had no display but sound! 1.5 years later i get round to looking at it. took a shot at it was a dodgy part i got and order another one up along with the XSUS Board 942-200433. And well after putting it all back in i have the green sparklies im assuming the XSUS Board is not faulty as either give me the same result. But the Scan board that i took out is completely no picture when in and the new will display but has the green sparklies.

Now after reading the thread "A guide to fixing/troubleshooting some common plasma TV problems" i saw there is a few adjusters on the board but what one? (once again ill post pics )

the last thing i can think of the Digital Video Board also got damaged? i will see if i can get a reading from the PSU on how many volts its giving out tonight.

Any ideas and help would be greatful

Sparkling pixels are often a result of poorly set timing adjustments or bad YSUS board.

Thanks for getting back tom, well i got the board from Bullock Bros online so i assumed they tested it before shipping. Tom when you say timing adjustments would they be named VR1 VR2 VR ERASE 101 on the YSUS board?

        Those are probably the adjustments.
Very few parts retailers test their parts, they simply sell off parts from scrapped TVs.

Thanks Tom ill give it a go guess its hair width turns make a lot of difference?

Shall update you later tonight after ive tried it out

          Thanks again

Yeah, adjust slowly and carefully looking at the screen while you do so.

It is possible to adjust it such that the power supply will shut down due to excessive power consumption (such as the panel going full white), if this occurs you must turn the pot back then re-power the TV.

Tom attached is the display before i do anything. Im thinking it isnt Sparkles after all and more of a YSUS failure.

                Looks more like XSUS/Z-sustain failure.

Well have 2 XSUS boards now as I ordered one up and both give the same image. Of course I can't say the same for the scan board as one doesn't display a picture. Is the z-sustain same as XSUS?

Re: NEC 42VM3G Plasma Green sparklies

                    Z-sus = X-sus.
It may be Y-sus adjustments still have you played with those?
And check Vs, Vd from power board.

Yes i did change them a small amount but nothing changed. When i am reading the Vs does it matter what pin i put the reader in or can it be any? Also how do i read the Va? sorry with all the questions but i am not an expert at Tv Boards.

Vs, Vd (=Va) can be checked on the X-SUS or Y-SUS connectors, any of the Vs/Vd pins can be used. The rating will be written on the back of the plasma panel metal plate, e.g. Vs = 170V, Vd = 80V.

Ok well that test didn't goto plan as none of the pins have any ID there.was a spark a pop and now a green and red flashing light hope its just a fuse on the PSU but no sign of burn on them
