NEC TV Has Trouble Turning On.

First off, new to the forum. I have a 40" NEC LCD TV. Not sure of the model, and cannot see the back easily because it is wall mounted. A little back story on the TV... I acquired it about 2 years ago. My wife worked at a bank that had this TV playing in the background 24/7 365 for 4 years until it was replaced because it developed a line in. We got it because they were going to toss it and it worked perfectly fine. The lines have been a non issue for it because we regularly turn it off and the lines disappear as soon as the TV cools down a little.

My current problem is this. When the TV turns on it goes through a start up where the power light will flash Amber a few times, then Turn Green and a Blue Power Light will also light up, and the TV will come to life. Lately what is happening is the TV will begin starting up, flashing Amber, then going Green, with the Blue light on as well, but there will be no picture, and no sound. Normally after the first attempt the TV will not turn back off unless it is unplugged from the outlet. After it is plugged back in and you turn it on again the same scenario will play out minus the need to unplug it from the outlet. This process will continue for anywhere from 5 minutes to Hours until the TV will finally come to life correctly. Once it is fully on the TV works flawlessly without any lines or issues at all. Come the next morning, this Tedious process will play out again.

What could be the problem with the TV? Is there anything that could be easily replaced in the TV that could fix the problem? OR is the TV simply terminal and I should count my blessings that it still turns on at all and works.

Any Insight would be AWESOME! Thank you all for any help!

    Jeff

It sounds like a power supply issue - possibly as simple as bad capacitors. I wouldn't rule the main board at this point, though. You'll have to open up the TV to thoroughly diagnose it. What is the TV's model #? It could be common issue with this TV model.

Unfortunately my TV is hanging on the wall and I cannot see the back of it so I am unsure of the model number. Im some what of a novice with Electronics but I can work my way through most things. I was hoping to get some ideas of where to start. If its a power supply, I could probably handle that. If its the main board, I assume thats pretty much a death blow for this tv right?

Well, this is most likely an internal issue that cannot be addressed without removing the TV from the wall. A bad main board would not necessarily be a "death blow". It depends on how much you're willing to spend to correct the problem. Unless someone else has run into this exact issue with an NEC, it's a bit of a guessing game right now as it stands...or hangs.

Lets say its a main board. Where would I look to find the parts needed, and what kind of price would I be talking about?

It may be difficult to find a main board for an NEC, since it's not a popular brand. You can try looking on eBay, ShopJimmy.com, or you can just do a general Google search. Having the main board's part number would help narrow your search. I did a quick search on eBay, and I couldn't find one when I searched by the TV's model #.

Edit: Again, it could be the power supply that's faulty.

Well it would appear parts are nearly non assistant. I also have searched and searched for any parts with that model number and cannot find a single part. I emailed NEC to see if they can direct me toward a fix. That seems to me my last chance with a repair. We shall see if I get a reply.

A readily available component or two on a circuit board may have failed, and it could turn out to be a really simple fix. It almost sounds like you're looking for a magical fix, which doesn't exist in electronics.

How about good clear pictures of the TV and all the boards? Closed up pictures of the connectors so we can see the voltage labeling for the connectors so we can tell you what to look for.

I'm not looking for a magical fix, I'm looking for a direction to go in. I don't want to take the TV down and tear into it without an idea of what I am looking for. That is all. Thanks.

I can definitely do that, just need to wait for a day off where I can take the time to get into it...

You will have to take it off the wall, take the back off, and take pictures of the entire back of the tv, and of each board. Use the manage attachments to send the pictures. If we can't see, it's hard to help. It sounds like you may have bad caps in the power supply.
