    SAMSUNG PS-50Q96HD No picture

    Hi Guys,

My nan and granddad have a SAMSUNG PS-50Q96HD TV that has sound and no picture, it was working fine and the picture just went one day. I am getting pretty good with LCD TV repairs but no so good with plasma's.

    Anyone have any advice please?

    y-buffer + y-main 90% of the time.
cold joints on power board the other 10%.

      Hi Tom,

When you say cold joints on power board is there a certain area on the board or can it be anywhere? as I think its worth a try to resolder the joints first. I will open it up today and send a pic as just need to understand which PCB is y-buffer and y- main.

Mainly around the heatsinks with the large power transistors. They are very obvious on inspection - grey/dull/cracked.

Hi Tom, Just checked PSU and all the solder joints look good, See picture attached. Can you tell me where the y-buffer and y-main are so I can get a part number from them please.

The long narrow boards on the left side with the 6 brown ribbons are your Y-buffer boards...The Y-sus board is right next to it(attached to the buffer boards).

and your xmain is to the rght mate

before you start replacing parts test them measure fuses etc
measure al connections ratings are on power board

measure the vs and va these test points are on the power board
check against panel sticker on the plasma

                  Hi Guys,

I am a little confused now as Tom66 said it is going to be the y-buffer and y-main. So I was just going to replace them, so do I need to check voltages/fuses if that the case?

Hi andy check the fuses on y main thats the left board fuse is at top near the vs connector

also there is a small cap near this connector just under the heatsink check the top of it or any caps for bulging tops

Hi Guys, Never got anywhere with this set as my grandparents bought a new one and just found out that it has been in the garage ever since! so got it out and going to try to fix it and use it I checked what wreksta suggested the fuse is OK and I cannot see any bulging caps at all. Is there a way to prove it is the Y buffer or y main?

ymain, On one of the heatsinks there is a group of 4 (or 5) 88N30W & a 2SK2837 and a surface mounted B20NK50Z in front of that heatsink. Generally any of these will be shorted and the upper y buffer board.

If the Ymain is shorted, 100% buffer will be too. could try searching the board numbers or other models with the same boards. Plenty of posts about this panel bad upper/ymain.

Hi Tw2005, I have just measured the devices, I have four 88N30W and one K2837. I have recorded the readings as you look at the side of the PCB with the fuse/Vs input to the left:

1, 88N30W... left pin to middle pin 40.9, middle to right pin 0.4, outer pins 40.9
2, 88N30W... left pin to middle pin 40.8, middle to right pin 0.3, outer pins 40.8
3, 88N30W... left pin to middle pin 40.7, middle to right pin 0.3, outer pins 40.7
4, 88N30W... left pin to middle pin 11.3, middle to right pin 0.3, outer pins 11.2
5, 2SK2837...left pin to middle pin 700K, middle to right pin 5.1M, outer pins 9.96K
                          6, B20NK50Z....across the two pins 0.998K

Does indicate that the 4th 88N30W is S/C?

You could take the punt and remove that first and recheck the others. 1 shorted will short the whole bank as you can see middle to right are all short.

The worst part about these is sourcing an upper buffer board unless you can do hot air work on the buffer ICs.

                                          - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds

                                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                          Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. Hello all,

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...
