    Vertical Bar Clarification, TH-C50FD18 (TH-50PZ80U)

New to the site and know this may have been already covered but I wanted to get a better idea with a little more detail behind it for an issue I am having.
Have the 2-3" black bar that runs vertically the entire length of the display (middle third). The bar is solid black, no additional lines or artifacts. I located the applicable C2 plug and the PDP ribbon cable was tight. When I remove the ribbon cable, I get snowy noise in the entire bar area. When I replace the ribbon cable it goes back to solid black. Have ordered a spare C2 board in hope that the problem can be isolated to it rather than the PDP. Seems like I see conflicting issues which suggest any artifacts on the black bar point to PDP and maybe (maybe!) the lack of noise or artifacts on the black bar could suggest C2 as the cause. Have spoken with 2 local shops, one said PDP, one said maybe C2 or PDP so it's worth the $30 to try a C2. Of course I'm hoping for the C2 but does anyone have more specific experience with differentiating the no noise versus noisy black bar? Don't want to get my hopes up if it's an obvious call. Thanks in advance for thehelp and again sorry if I'm posting something that has been covered ad nauseaum.

I think you're on the right track. Hopefully, replacing the buffer board will solve your issue. You may want to post a picture or two of what you're seeing onscreen.

No joy in Mudville I'm afraid. C2 board does nothing, solid black vertical line remains. At only $30 for hte board, suppose it was worth a shot. Now to determine if I want to part out the parts or find a good home for the boards. Capkid, you're close to me, want the parts? Can work something out (barter, not $$), PM me if you are interested. Thanks!

That's too bad. I'm not actually repairing TVs much anymore, but thanks for the offer. I actually have a couple of this model Panasonic - nice picture when they work.

Looking for Vertical IC for RCA Chassis CTC159L CRT
          by mopenstein
I'm working on my 27" RCA console TV built in 1990. It had some vertical rollover for a few months that went away after being powered on for a few minutes. I had been meaning to open it up and check it out but it had total vertical collapse before I could get to it.

Now that I have the time I opened it up and found a couple leaky capacitors around the vertical ic. So I figured the caps went bad and cooked the vertical IC.

I got the caps out and replacements on order. But when I took out the Vertical IC I saw that the chip numbers have been almost completely wiped...

          Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
          by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
          by howardc64
          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Colorful LCD Vertical Lines on Samsung ue55es8090
          by Falki
Hello there, ive recently found an older 55inch Samsung SmartTV.
Sadly it has vertical lines at the left and one line in the middle-right.

I have already tested out the connections and have looked at the soldered ribbons of the LCD panel to see if some contacts got loose by pushing them a bit but with no success.
I have factory resetted the TV as well but also with no luck.

I am afraid that it is indeed a LCD Panel issue but there are NO scratches or any impact-marks..

A similar issue has been posted as well but also with no actual response ...

Samsung LC32HG70QQUXEN - vertical and horizontal stripes across the screen
          by kotel studios
          Hi,

Just now my Samsung LC32HG70QQUXEN monitor gave up on me. On cold boots I get many vertical stripes going across the screen (see the attached picture). After it runs for 1-2 minutes those go away but there are horizontal stripes going across the whole screen no matter of the input and PCs I use. (couldn't take an picture of it since the image size goes to 20MB and the camera doesn't pick them up)

In a video about a 27" monitor with an similar issue the guy removes one resistor and supposedly the entire monitor goes back to life? For sure this fix is only temporary....
