Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Update. The last two weeks TV has been making a buzzing sound while I have been watching TV or movies. Today it started crackling and popping as well and it finally gave out. These noises appeared to becoming from something that drives the picture or the power since they do not occur when muted. I now get the 8 blinks of death once again. I let it cool for a while and the picture came up for about 15 seconds then shutdown and now it will not come up again. Not sure if I have the heart to repair it again.
Were the screws replaced or tight with the first repair? I 've read the screws are part of the problem.Last edited by tw2005; 07-31-2014, 07:48 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Hey guys. I found this tonight since my TC-P50UT50 made in June of 2012 just bit the dust. I am fine with working on the board and all but I just wanted to make sure the repair kit Jimmy sales gives the board location. Is it cheaper and maybe better off to replace the whole SS board?Leave a comment:

As you'll see, kits vary but hard to argue with the SJ kit price.

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
I just completed the 8 blink repair on my TC-P50U50. I bought the repair kit (Panasonic TXNSS1SDUU (TNPA5623) SS Board Component Repair Kit) from Shop Jimmy. I have very little electrical and soldering experience but was able to complete it successfully. The kit comes with a diode, transitor, resistor and a chip. I tested my resistor and it still read 5.6ohms the same as the new one so I decided not to replace it cause it looked like a huge pain in the a**. I followed the panasonic tech bulletin that someone posted earlier but only replaced the diode and resistor (which are the easiest to replace) and the TV now works. I reccommend a 40W soldering iron with a pencil tip and a small flat blade tip as well as using a solder wick to clean up the old solder. Good luck to any completing this task in the future and join us in never purchasing from Panasonic again!Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
I have TC-P50UT50 since Aug-2012 and all of a sudden yesterday TV went bad with 8 Blink behavior. I've extended warranty so trying to go through that first.
But after searching through different Panasonic service manual, it seems like issue is with specific Transistor on SS Board. Most likely Q16051 which is most commonly used IGBT in Panasonic Plasma. Attached is the Panasonic Technical Bulletin and the exact part u can order.
I figured I had nothing to lose before I took it to a local repair shop so I called Panasonic up as an unhappy customer. I explained the situation and how I was not real pleased that two components on this TV failed within 2yrs of getting it. I have a Sony that is 3 yrs old with not a single problem and would consider Sony for my next HDTV purchase.
Long story short....Panasonic gave me a case number and told me to take it to a local designated shop for repair (about 30mins away). Along with my receipt from best Buy, Panasonic will now cover most of the parts cost for both of these issues. It will only cost me about $150 in labor charges.
I personally do not like getting extended warranties and realize they are gambles no matter how you look at it. I also figure I am still coming out ahead here as the GeekSquad warranty at the time was $200 for 2yrs.
In case anyone else has this issue, you may want to try something similar. Can't hurt and only will require your time to make the phone call.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
I just repaired a TC-P50UT50 for 8 blinks, it was the shorted transistor, diode and open resistor as in the panasonic bulletin above, worked great after repair. Also I would check the grounds (board to panel) on the sc board, they were'nt the best either, clean with a bit of sand paper.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Thanks for responding. Does this mean that i have an expensive door stop?
I'm assuming that panel failure can't be fixed?
My tv shut down with the 8 blinks and came back on after a few minutes and work perfectly for a week before the second shut down.
I have not opened the tv yet because i was hoping that other people have a fix for it. I can see lots of ss and A boards for this tv on ebay to fix the 8 blink problem?Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
You may have a shorted ic on the panel. One only other way to verify is pull the ribbons and visually blownLeave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Similar problem here. It's a Costco model TC-50PU54. Instant shutdown; 8 blinks.
If you disconnect the A33 ribbon to the SS panel, TV comes on. Stays on, and there is sound, no video (except a flash of the "HDMI1" panel in the upper left corner.
If you reconnect that A33 ribbon, you get the quick shut down and 8 blinks.
Put an ohm meter to the TP101 spot on the C1 panel and checked ohms to chassis. It reads almost none, so it's close to a short.
Everyone think that means a panel failure?Leave a comment:

Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

by BiruslapioBought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.
Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner... -
by FZGHello!
I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.
Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.
I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?
Also, what mechanism is this?
Any feedback is appreciated!...05-06-2024, 07:16 AM -
by Bazfletch3Hi all
While I have quite a decent background in electrical & electronic troubleshooting & repairs, this is my first time stripping down an LCD TV for repair.... I have inherited a 3yr old Panasonic LCD which has a picture, but it is quite dark (too dark to be watchable - but still quite easy to see; I didnt need a torch to see it).
I started by checking and trying to adjust all of the picture and backlighting levels, but that made little to no difference. I also did a factory reset.
From there I envisaged that the backlighting wasn't working, however... -
by kcaHello all ~
I’m working on this Samsung 60” LED and purchased a new main board a couple of days ago that did not fix the 5 blink issue. The original main board’s HDMI ports (all 4 of them) failed to work and no amount of reflow remedied that.
This 5 red light blink code on the front panel LED is followed (about 15-20 seconds afterward) by an automatic reboot, and results in 5 more red light blinks. Then the entire cycle repeats itself indefinitely.
No picture. No sound.
I tested all the voltages coming out of the power supply... - Loading...
