    Westinghouse LD-4655VX secondary failure

This LED backlit LCD TV originally came to me dead. I followed this thread:

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=westinghouse

The original issue turned out to be a burnt ribbon cable end that supplied power to the right half (as viewed) of the LED backlight strip. I cut a quarter inch off the bad end, shaved some plastic back to expose conductors, and reinserted the ribbon cable. The unit lit up fine, and had a pretty good picture for a lower-priced HDTV. I assembled the unit and ran it for "burn-in testing".

Upon running overnight, the unit has developed a new failure. The screen has the same problem everywhere. Images are not bright enough, except at high brightness areas of the image. The gray areas are nearly black. White is white. When the image disappears, it persists for a short time. Moving images leave trails, kind of like the mouse pointer on a laptop.

Preliminary troubleshooting reveals that the power supply seems OK. I have 12V, 5V, 3.3V and supply voltage for the LED sticks. Suspecting a loose tab, I pinched all the tabs around the LCD panel while watching the screen, no change in picture. I reseated the LVDS cable and the ribbon cables connecting the receiver boards. No change in picture.

    Re: Westinghouse LD-4655VX secondary failure

Freezing various parts (graphics scaler chip, lvds receiver chip, power fets, etc.) has no effect on operation.

To me, it seems as if a cheap repair is out of reach. The timing controller boards are not available for this unit, since they are bonded with tabs to the panel. The main board is the only real board level repair option. I can do SMD repairs, but have yet to find any real service manuals or info on this unit.

So what do you all think? Is a main board likely to repair this set? I'm not sure my buddy is willing to gamble and order a main board on blind faith.

I shot a youtube video of the set:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no2WNT5P0zY

Are there any models nearly equivalent to this one? It has a Chimei Innolux panel in it (CMO), number V460H1-p09. Can't find a price on only one. Datasheet says the panel supports 3D and 120HZ refresh rate, so I imagine the panel also goes in some more expensive models as well.

Sometimes tab bond faults can be located in several different places on the bond, such as the chip itself and on the LCD or PCB side. Did you try all of these? It certainly looks like a tab bond issue.

Main board tested good when rigged to a samsung monitor panel. Since the tcon boards are no longer available (and they're tab-bonded to the panel), this set is doomed to a life of endless torture on the xbox. It's big, and the kids don't care about the dark picture. Not economical to repair (new or used panel). Such a shame, ,it looked good for one night....

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
            by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

Repair of an LG split AC system indoor unit PCB
            by ngml
I am trying to repair an LG split AC indoor unit, which does not start and gives a CH05 error code.
This indicates an error in the communication between the outdoor and the indoor unit.
The outdoor unit is fine, so the problem is the indoor PCB.
The indoor unit is an LG PC09SQ NSJ (3SNM09JA2FA), and the PCB has the following type number: EAX35907219-1.2 (see photo1)
I changed optocouplers ICO1X & ICO2X and the NPN transistor S9013 which drives optocoupler ICO2X (see photo2), but this did not remedy the fault.

Does anybody have the schematics of this board,...

Garage door RX unit (Cardin S38C) does not short relay to send opening signal
            by CoinCoin88
            Hello everyone,

I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!

Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver...

Unit runs but no speaker output kenwood KR-6030
            by DrDos
I have finished my work. The new lights come on except the one for stereo, I reversed the bulbs to no affect, anyway, the unit powers on, relay clicks. I have no DC voltage in speaker outputs, I also do not have any AC in the speaker outputs. There is some faint crackling in the speaker. This unit cranks up loud so I had the volume on very low. Everything seems to be fine but I can't really check the switch until I can get sound out of the outputs. I was going to do caps for the power supplys and the tone board but thought if it was cranking loud at one time maybe just leave it alone until it...

            Xbox 360 PSU failure diagnosis
            by nick122
            Hi everyone!

I recently got a bunch of 360 accessories for a good price, among which was also this PSU. It's a unit is rated for 175W (14.2A). OEM is Liteon.

The unit briefly powers on for a few seconds, the green light comes on, and powers back off shortly after the green light changes to red. There is no output voltage, I can't hear the fan running either.

Upon opening it up, there is nothing that would indicate why the unit failed. No burn marks, everything looks good visually. Primary cap is 130uf 450v NCC KMG, secondary caps are 1500uf 16v TAICON,...
