Im having some issues with my insignia 42 inch LCD flatscreen tv. (apologies, but i am a very new user to this site) My television is having an issue where half of the screen fades into a darker picture than the other half. (Check the pictures i have linked below for more information) This black faded color on the tv does overlap onto the tv menu and on all inputs whether it be hdmi, svideo, pc, etc. After a while, the half of the screen darkness goes away sometimes and it gets white vertical lines across the 2/3 of the screen starting from the left. (note that this is very rare when it happens and i was unable to snap a picture of it). Being gifted with electronics luckily, i have opened the back of the tv and exposed the main boards, which i have attempted to identify as the main board and power supply board, as well as 2 smaller boards on the sides which i believe are TCON boards. im not sure what is causing this problem but i do know that whenever i physicaly bend the top of the tv, the darkness goes away and is returned to its normal looking screen on all inputs and menus.Also, sometimes the pictures that are displayed on the tv tend to lag behind and slowly "fade" away to the next picture ive tried tapping on all the cables, tapping ribbon cables to no avail to what may be indicating this issue. im really dreading it may be the entire lcd panel of the tv, but i have thoughts that it may be one of the boards, so if anyone can help identify what problems are arising, it would be greatly appreciated. ( if it can be fixed myself with a few parts GREAT! the last thing i want to do is pay 400 bucks for a technician to come out and tell me its broken and take it away to fix it for 2 weeks, but il take that as a last resort or buy a new tv depending on the price)

I'd search on here for bad tab bonds. Based on the one I just fixed with that same problem (a 37" Vizio), I'd about bet on that being the issue. Unfortunately, there is no real fix for it but you may be able to rig something up to get it working again.

I'll let one of the pros chime in and see if they agree.

Thanks for the reply. I will test all the ribbon cables and connectors and give it a little electric cleaner that i bought at a local computer store and see if that helps!

The tab bonds are usually at the top of the LCD panel where the actual screen connects to the circuit boards. You have to tear it almost completely down to get to them. If you can power up the TV in that state, you can then apply pressure to each one to figure out which is bad. I was able to use some adhesive tape and a plastic wedge to hold mine down. Its been working for a week or so now. We'll see.

actually there is another board towards the top of the tv that i just noticed. its on the top of the tv thats secured by a few nails but its bonded on the top with a piece of thick adhesive tape and i am afraid to pull it off, but there is certainly a green chip underneath that piece of metal covering it. I beleive this is the bad chip because the tv returns to normal after i physically bent the top of the tv. I really thank you my friend, i think i am headed in the right direction thanks to you :]

EDIT- i Got the metal cover off and found the two ribbon cables. Im going to do some more testing. (below is the link to the photo in which i found)

That's the Tcon board. The ribbons go from that up to another board that has the tabs attached to it. It'll be underneath the metal bezel on top.

I got to head to bed but will check back on you tomorrow.

Alright so i dug alot deeper into the tv, its not the ribbon cables nor is it the tcon board on the top, i took off the metal bezel beneath the black plastic one and found two more rather large, long smaller boards (see picture below) that the ribbon cables from the tcon board connect to. the problem persists when i touch the thin cables that go from the seperate boards to the screen from when i was bending the screeen. check out these pictures. i dont think these will be easily replaceable :/

EDIT-

I GOT IT FIXED!!!! the problem was one of the brown cables that went from the top chip to the lcd itself, the far left side one to be exact, was extremley sensitive. Whenever it was torqued or touched, the whole left screen would fizzle out with black and static. what i did to prevent the pressure from touching it was got 2 rubber stoppers roughly half a centimeter in depth and put one on each side of that strip connecting to the lcd to prevent any friction or pressure on that sensitve cable. ive put the whole bohemeth back together and its working perfectly banging on it tapping it bending it and so far so good! this is really only a temporary fix but im hoping it lasts long enough til i can get some money for a newish tv. thanks for all your help man. i will post result pictures and the rubber stoppers tomorrow. (its midnight and im tired, haha)

Good deal. Wasn't exactly what I was thinking but it was certainly the right direction. Glad its working and if it isn't moved around at all, maybe it will last for some time.

Please do post some pictures for reference in case someone else runs in to the same issue.
