Acoustic Solutions CTVL32W3HD Blue Light no picture of sound

    Hi Guys,

I have taken delivery of a Acoustic Solutions CTVL32W3HD, the fault to person selling it was that it was dead. I switched it on and I get the blue light on the front and the red LED flashing on the IPOS 150 Rev 1.8 PSU. I have checked the fuse on the Tcon and that is fine, as I was thinking that no picture after the blue light could be Tcon. The cap C81 is slightly bulging but has not leaked. I take it the red LED should flash on the PSU?

See pics of the boards. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

LED flashing on PSU is a FAULT indicator.
ANY bulging on any capacitor is bad -- regardless of whether it's leaking! (Unless you're talking about the plastic disc on top of the 400/450V cap.)

      Hi Tom,

Thank you for the speedy reply, I will replace the two caps C81 (shown in top left of picture) which is slightly bulging and the one below it C82, is there any other ones that are worth replacing?

Do you think it is the bulging cap causing the fault or some other components adding to it?

I have fixed two IPOS150 recently with those bad caps, common fault, screen usually lights up dim or flickers then red LED flashes. Don't expect much from these TVs -- awful picture quality!

As Tom said red led is fault light ,have got these boards running again just by changing EC 17+ 18 if not you will have to take heat sink of and change the caps that are under it

Hi Guys, OK great thank you for the other thread, I will search for EC17 and 18 on the PSU and order then as well. Can you please recommend the best place to buy caps etc from as in the past I have used Maplins or eBay?

i sold my set i repaired recently on gumtree i do agree with tom these dont have the best of pictures the quality of it just never looked right compared to other lcds i have repaired These sets dont seem to have sound selected untill you press input on the remote then scroll down and high lite what input your using ie scart 1 scart 2 etc etc they never seem to auto detect what scart lead you insert for some reason if that makes sense.
tom will advise why not to use maplin capacitors i am still learning myself but i think its due to them only being general purpose caps not low esr etc .

Vince hit the nail on the head, they just won't last with their high esr, short lifespans.

The LCD panels in these sets are the lowest denominator, frankly awful. Very poor viewing angle, poor contrast ratio, and the colours look either oversaturated (people are orange) or too dull (no vibrancy to the image.)

The software on the Freeview models is very sluggish and difficult to use, and often gets confused when tuning for new channels. The rest of the TV's software also behaves rather strangely and seems to have been written in a hurry, with little thought put in.

The ones I've worked with are of the Bush persuasion and do have Freeview, but the rest of my comments apply. I don't buy these TVs any more, am currently selling them off cheap.

Nintendo 2DS XL – Orange light, no blue light, signs of overheating
                              by Tomylee
Hi everyone, I have a Nintendo 2DS XL that shows the orange charging light when plugged in, but nothing happens when I press the power button — no blue light, no screen, no sound.

                              Here's what I've observed:

All ribbon cables are properly connected

Battery is present and in good condition

No reaction even with screens disconnected

There's a visible burn mark / overheating sign on the metal shield, right above the CPU

I’m suspecting an issue with the CPU, PMIC, NAND, or a power...

Have tried published resets with no help. (unplug for 10, push on-off for 30, push menu and vol +, etc.)

After being plugged in, red light comes on. Push power button and blue light comes on for ~five seconds then goes out. Power button does not turn the unit on a second time - have to unplug/re-plug before power button will try to start with blue light.

No sound, no picture (used flashlight test).

No bulging cap, no burn spots, no burn smells, nothing visual (cold joints/breaks/bugs).

PS5 EDM-033 Blue Light 2 Sec then Powers Off
                              by TurboTundra
Hi, I am waiting for my uart tool so I can grab an error code and narrow down where my issue is, but I decided to measure capacitors and fuses to insure everything was okay.

The PS5 turns on with a blue light and a beep for 1-2 seconds then turns off. I noticed a grey capacitor measures no voltage on standby or input power. Does this indicate a problem with the capacitor or something down on the line? I’m getting 3.3v on input with the red cap next to the grey one, and 5.2v on input with the red cap further away from the grey cap.

                              Thank you for any input...

Hello, I'm new to the group and to trying to repair a LCD TV. During the past few years, I've been collecting/repairing/restoring vintage personal computers (Commodore, Apple II, Atari, TRS-80, Texas Instruments, and Timex Sinclair). This has been my retirement hobby. Now I've gotten interested in trying to repair a LCD TV that I have and used regularly when working on vintage computers.

The LCD I'm working on is a Insignia NS-LCD019. I've downloaded the service manual that I could find, but it must be a different revision since not too many items in the service manual match the TV...
