If it is a bad buffer, it's going to be the one that lines up directly underneath the blacked out area on the screen.

I've just checked.. What you say is absolutely right, nutty, if from the front the left side is dodgy, then you need to check the right buffer at the back.. I just checked Damon Morrow's book, and it seems that he has made the same mistake..

but like Marty said, the buffer that is under the part of the screen that is black, is the one that you need to check..



^ That was annoying me, so I edited it to reflect the proper naming convention for the X buffer boards.

The reason I ask is that I saw this pic and I would assume that it would be the right buffer board that would casue the left side of the screen to go out like it is.

sorry it wont let me post the pic but here is the link http://www.plasmafix.com/plasma.php It refers to the the boards as the left center and right as looking at the TV from the back not the front.

Yeah, it's just the sort of thing you have to be very careful with when ordering.. My dad used to work with cars and used to have the same issue when somebody would order a headlight.... Some people would refer to the "left headlight" as the one on the left as you are looking at the car from the front, as opposed to the one on the left as you are sitting in the car...

Can you remove the board and test it?

My dad is also works on cars and I did body work for a # of years. hence my questions. lol. I actully had to order a part once for my mom and i finally had to say ok if your sitting in the car what side is it on.

as far as taking it out and testing I wouldnt be able to do the testing part I dont have a voltage generator. however the part is about $15 bucks so it might not hurt to order one.

Well you're gonna have to take it out anyway, so why not take a couple of high res images of it .... Sometimes the ICs show visual signs of being burned... And if you had a multimeter you could check it for shorts... What you are looking for at this stage is some sort of substantiation of the initial suspicion that this X buffer is faulty..

The X-buffer boards themselves rarely fail, it's not impossible but rare. By far the most common fault is the connectors attaching to the boards, they tend to work themselves loose.

Tom, I will check the connection maybe that is why I got that blue fuzz appear for a sec while moving the TV.

Yes, that's a good idea, however, make SURE the power is OFF and the set is unplugged before you fiddle, as you can otherwise cause damage to the plasma panel which is not repairable.

Well are you guys ready.... Drum roll please.... It was a loose connection from the xr buffer board. the coonection on the main control board to the buffer board was loose the flap of the connector that hold the ribbion down had came up. pushed it down and here is a pic of my working TV.

Very strange, almost like the left half of the screen is not properly connected. Can we get a picture of the chassis layout?
