    Re: Hello

Well I can agree with the above comments. I'm glad forums like this exist sometimes you can get some bad info but in this case I couldn't ask for a better response. You guys were awesome.
Some time ago I tried my hand at fixing another TV with a few bad capacitors. After replacing they and it didn’t fix my problem I set the TV in a corner and just haven’t had the heart to toss it out. I'm jumping at the chance this weekend to open it back up and do some more investigating. Since I’m truly a parts replace kind of guy (Lack of knowledge to really do anything besides checking voltage). I removed the old caps and put the new ones in. At that point the TV did the same thing nothing worse nothing better. I wrote it off as a bad soldering job (which can still be the case).

Budm is the king of LCD repair, but I still await the day you tackle a plasma .
They are great to work on once you have the tools.
And the newer ones aren't so heavy any more...

        Re: Hello

Oh budm has never worked on a plasma? Does someone else at your charitable group do the plasmas?

He needs to get into the mix, even i just did my first one (although admitedly just a power supply fix). Theres a few others listed locally that im gonna probably get too, like a 2011 42" samsung pn43d450 with click of death? (probably caps too?)
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

          Re: Hello

PN43D450 click of death is failed X-main/Y-main. May be cheap, boards here are only 20 quid each, recently repaired a PS43D450 with X-main and Y-main swap, the picture was not too shabby for a budget plasma.

            Re: Hello

Youd expect it to need both boards? The boards here are about 30 usd shipped, so around 20 quid yeah. But if both boards are required id need to get the set fairly cheap(~$60) to want to work on it (seller has it listed crazy high $125)

              Re: Hello

Sometimes you get lucky, and just X-main fails (common fault: apply firmware update after repair.) However, if you're unlucky, due to the chained/combined ERC, the X-main failure can then take out the Y-main. Only a problem on these newer plasmas due to the cost saving combined ERC.

                Re: Hello

I only work on them with the help of the other two people to lift the TV on to the bench, and just simple bad caps repair but nothing deep in depth troubleshooting.

                  Re: Hello

I've had maybe one or two plasmas with bad caps, everything else has been a little more in-depth, but not too bad. They're easier to repair than people expect, usually faults fall into a small category of possible issues so you can narrow down the problem rapidly. Things like this are a classic example. My Panasonic 46" was just a loose cable too, and the 42" was a cold joint. Hard to get simpler than that. About 50% of faults are PSU/main board, 50% are SUS/drive.

Of course, you get the nightmare IPM based 42/50X1, X2, X3, X4 panels used in LG's; I don't touch them with a 10 foot pole.
