    Vizio E370VL Display Issue

    Picked this one up for only $20 so I figured it was worth a shot. I haven't had a very good track record so far with any of the Vizio's though. Ok, here's what's going on.

    The very right side of the screen looks almost normal. As you progress left, the screen gets darker and darker and the very left side is almost invisible. Now, at first I thought this to be the backlighting but it appears that everything is lit up looking at the back with the cover removed.

    Also, on top of the dim lighting on that side, it appears that the screen is very slow to respond when the picture changes. It leaves a ghosting of the last image that appears similar to screen burn as well as trails on the screen when objects move. If you leave a still image on it for about 30 seconds it appears basically normal other than the brightness.

    The first pic shows how the previous screen can be seen underneath the current one and in the 3rd you can see the blurring effect as I switch.

    Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Can you try with a fixed colour test pattern? Or ordinary TV? It's hard to see what you mean.
    This is likely a tab bond issue, I have encountered them on some 37" LG.Philips LCD panels, common issue.

      I can when I get home from work this evening but basically what you get with no input device connected is a solid blue screen. The blue looks ok but the no signal message is blurry and slow to react as it moves around the screen. I can do a video of it maybe.

      Also, when the screen first comes on the blue shows up on the right side first then slowing moves across the screen toward the left taking about 10 seconds before the whole screen is lit up.

        Definitely sounds like tab bonds, not bad for $20, there's a risk in damaging the panel when doing the repair, so you have to be careful.
        Budm had success with doing it on two 52 inch panels.

          Ok. I'll get the frame off of it and try putting some pressure on them and see if anything changes. However, I'll post a few additional pictures first this evening.

            OK. Here's a few more pics. One of the no signal screen that looks about normal other than the fact that the previous image shows up slightly. The moving ones you can see how the right side looks relatively normal and the left is very blurry with slow response to changes. The last one, I hit pause and you can see again that once the picture sits for 10 seconds or so, it looks pretty normal all the way aorund again.

              Oh, and its clearly an LG panel inside. T-con and display both say LG on them.

                The problem is common with 37" LG displays for some reason.

                  Ok. Looks like quite a pain to get to the tabs on top. I reseated both ribbons going from the T-con to the top and no change. May be a few days before I have time to dig in any deeper but I'll get to it soon.

                  Oh, and get this. Apparently I wasn't the first one to take a look in this thing. I found a Phillips screwdriver wedged behind the cover of the main board. Amazingly I don't thing it ever touched anything important.

                    You're the man, Tom. I got it going. Bad bond on the left most tab. I put some adhesive tape over it then wedged a piece of plastic between it and the metal bezel to keep pressure on it. Who knows if it'll last but at least I know all the other parts are good.

                      Glad to hear. I prefer to use thermal material because it removes the heat, which causes the fault in the first place.

                        I need to get some of that for the next time. Any recommendations on where to order it?

                        Couple pictures attached after the repair. I should have taken a couple with it apart but oh well.
