    Panasonic 55vt30 board replacement

So I've followed the trouble-shooting guide for 2011 televisions, and have identified the problematic part as the SU board. The guide recommends replacing the SU/SD/SC boards all together if any single one is defective. I can find the SU and SD boards online, but the SC board is sold out everywhere and has apparently been back-ordered with Panasonic since December with no production date in sight.

Panasonic themselves were no help, suggesting that I should provide an estimate from an authorized Panasonic repair shop ($150), and they will give me 10% off another Panasonic TV (but from their online store, which is about 10-20% more expensive than Fry's or Amazon ). I don't know what kind of drugs they are smoking over there, but I want some!

Could I use the SC board from a 65" vt30, or perhaps the SC boards from a newer set like the VT50? Or should I just risk changing the SU/SD boards only, and see if that fixes my problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

You can't use a different screen size board unfortunately.

Have you tried with SU removed and powered the set up? Do you get a good picture? It might shut down with 7 blinks after some time, but even a brief image is good and indicates that SC and SD -do not- require replacement.

      Re: Panasonic 55vt30 board replacement

Would I have to remove the SU board entirely, or can I simply disconnect the SC/SU41 connector (i.e. the procedure I used to isolate the board)?

I'm going to give it a try, although since I had to remove the stand to take the back plate off, the TV is laying face down at the moment. Still, if I don't get the 7 blink error immediately, I guess that will be a good sign and I will try just replacing the SU/SD board (sd board is like $30, why not).

      Thanks for the advice.

        Re: Panasonic 55vt30 board replacement

Assuming you proved the SC as good by completely disconnected the SD/SU boards from the SC, jumpered SC50 and the TV powered on with no fault code then isolating the SD/SU individually will involve jumping SC50, disconnecting the small interconnecting ribbon between SD/SU, disconnect the SC connector to the board not being tested and it's GND screws.

Any SD/SU board disconnection will trigger the 7 blinks so the SC50 has to be jumpered.

I don't know if this is the guide you have but slide 87 on has what you want. Further back has all the other SOS6/7 resistance checks etc you can do.

Lets hope that a bad buffer does not kill the SC in the process, I have not read right through it.

Myself personally would rather check the buffers by resistance or shorts but the info is all there in the guide for you to decide for yourself.

I have the same 2011 guide, except specifically for the GT30/VT30 series. It also had me check Vsus and Vda resistances on the P board, which were both over the threshold 1K (actually, I couldn't consistently replicate the Vsus reading, half the time the multimeter would simply display 1, which to my understanding is still not indicative of a short).

I isolated the SU/SD board, and the TV still gave me 7 blinks, but it "sounded" better, if that makes any sense. Before there would try to turn on, there would be a loud click, and then it displayed the error code; this time it just went straight to the 7 blinks. I am not sure if I managed to jumper the SC50, as the jumper I pulled off an old hard-drive was too fat to fit in the slot, so I just used the metal piece. I'm going to stop by the local Panasonic repair shop today and see if I can acquire the "SC50 jig" as Panasonic calls it (a part # search only displays an Amazon sale for $35!), and try again.

Could you elaborate on the buffers?

Alligator clip should also do it. Half the jaw outside the connector the other sits acrooss the 2 pins.

That's what I use, yeah the hard drive jumper i thought would fit too, but too fat.

7 blinking lights. Less than three years old P55VT30.

This site is great. Thanks to everyone for sharing the information. Especially TW 205 -- thank you for the service manual. I am sending the boards to ModusLink (they e-mailed me back immediately) with my fingers crossed. Wish me luck. I'll report back if and when I have a working TV.

I have a P55VT30 and I too have been struggling to diagnose what exactly is causing the 7 blinking lights. I have disconnected the SC board and still get the 7 blinking lights. I have disconnected the SU and SD boards one at a time and after each time, I still get the 7 blinking lights. I have tried using the technical manual provided as a link, but the connections on my P board are slightly different so I am struggling with the Vsus, Vda and P15V tests. Does anyone have a technical manual for the P55VT30 or can they provide assistance with the Vsus, Vda and P15V tests for a P55VT30 P board?

I don't quite understand how you get 7 blinks if the Sc is uninstalled? How are you doing this? I'd do this.

disconnect the sd/su, remove the Vfg screws that bolt the sd/su to the sc, jumper the 2 pins at sc50 and turn the TV on.

If if still 7 blinks then SC is faulty but I aslo believe the sd/su can also fail on this model so you'd then have to resistance check those or check for short between the output pins(all of them) and the gnd pont which is the metal plates on those buffers.

                    Hello , i have P42-VT30E i get 7 red blinks
When i disconnect the SC board i get 8 red blinks.
I replaced the SS2 board and SS board , but still have 8 red blinks.

What could be the cause ?

                      Misdiagnosis?

So rewind, original fault SOS 7, not knowing this model or the board numbers , assuming it had SC,SD,Su boards.

7 blinks is normally one or all of those 3.

If you disconnect the Sc board, especially Sc20 then 8 blink is a normal result in that setup so sounds like you may have headed off in the wrong direction.

Do you have the board numbers because it's common for these later 42" models to actually have a SN board which is SC+SD+SU in a single unit like this.

                        I got a feeling you have TNPA5330AB.

                        http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANASONIC-...-/161859042078

Looking scarce, may have to rebuild, only trick will be whether the buffer ICs are shorted as well.

Find VFG test point( just above bottom buffer IC ) set Meter low ohms black lead to test point then run red lead across all the ribbon sockets contacts. A low ohm reading on any contact shows buffer fault

                                  Hi everyone!

                                  Do you know if I can use a SD-board coming from a 42VT30 on a 50VT30?

I know that the SU-board would probably not match but what about the SD one?

Thanks in advance for your answers ;-).

                                  Have a nice weekend.

                                    Not as it is!

At the least--you would need to change over the ERC components, although there may well be many other differences--not least the Length of the board--the panel-tabs wont line up, but being just the SD, its just possible the plugs have different board locations not used, to switch over to!
