I have a vizio p50hdtv10a i got for absolutely free out of my neighbors trash. It turns on and i get a display of one band of lines about 5 inches wide going down the very center, no other pic just some red pixeling around the screen. I unplugged the ysus board power and the band in the middle goes away and i have a full black screen but still after about ten seconds it clicks and turns itself off. What could it be professionals im used to lcds these plasma are a lil more complex. Can this be the display screen or most likely a board problem. Here are pictures of what its doing . These are with everything hooked up .

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
It is probably going off because it receives no signal, that is a very corrupted no signal display
This is a failed Y-buffer, if you are lucky, the Y-sus is OK, but I would recommend replacing that at the same time, on these LG/Samsung based plasma TVs.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Usually it's the top buffer but sometimes best to replace both. These are ugly sets in that a bad Y-sus can kill the buffer so replacement of the Y-sus is recommended... You can only really test with a scope. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
would you say this is a good quality plasma to spend 100-150 fixing. I am an amateur fixing these for fun and personal use and not to sell. To date i fixed a insignia 47, and failed to fix an 46 samsung lcd with a bad panel. I would like to know if this has a decent picture before i spend the money to fix if i am sucessful. Thanks for your help. I just missed a panasonic viera 50 that would not turn on that i saw for sale for $50.

Not really IMO, there's not much difference between this and a big LCD -- newer plasmas definitely worth fixing but not old, LG/Samsung based ones like this. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Throw $50 worth of buffer boards on it. The TV should bring at least $225 to $275 fixed. I know you don't want to fix and sell, but the only way you know for sure what the picture looks like on the set is to fix it. Fix this one and graduate on to bigger and better sets.

I had a similar problem before with an LG-based TV:

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
On this vizio it looks as though the y drv buffer upper and lower are tied together. I unplugged the cable from upper y drv board and y sus board and
i get really no change in picture. some posts said i could unhook one or the other and know that a board was bad by half the tv coming back on. If it is the top thats bad i guess there is no way to test this way is that correct to assume.

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Ok i did a little more troubleshooting. With the upper y drv board off of the y sus high voltage pads and wires unhooked off y sus board i get the wide band of vertical lines on the bottom half of screen only. With the lower y drive board disconnected from y sus pads and wire from upper y drv board unhooked i get a solid black picture with no on screen menus . Trying to keep from buying both boards. Anybody got any ideas from this if it is upper or lower. I would test but my meter doesnt have a diode mode. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Did you try to obtain resistance readings between the pads on each of the buffer boards (use "Ω" setting) with the boards removed from the TV? If so, what are the readings?
Edit: If you decide to purchase the buffer boards, ShopJimmy shows that there are substitutes, which widens your search:

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Alright heres my test of my boards using an ideal meter with diode and ohm mode, can someone help with the results
Ydrv top
diode mode between gold pads
1.109 one way and
.479 the other way
Ohm mode between gold pads in 200k range
01.6 one way and
01.6 the other way
Ohm mode between gold pads in 20M range
0.00
0.00
Ydrv bottom
diode mode between gold pads
.018 and a beep from meter meaning resistance less than 30ohm
.019 and a beep from meter meaning resistance less than 30ohm
Ohm mode between gold pads in 200k range
0.00
0.00
Ohm mode between gold pads in 20M range
0.00
0.00
Can someone please tell me which board is bad if you can tell, thanks
ahead of time!

Re: VIZIO P50HDTV10A One wide vertical band and clicks off after 10 sec.
Hmm, those readings seem odd to me. Both buffers may be bad. Did you try testing the mosfets for shorts? A simple test for shorts between drain and source may be sufficient. Per the Coppell blog, you only need to test one mosfet on each board, since the mosfets are in parallel.
(1) Using diode mode, connect your red probe to the drain and the black probe to source. Record the reading.
(2) Reverse the probes. Record the reading.
Edit: I remember that I only had to replace the lower buffer in my TV, and it had the same part number as yours (6871QDH089A).Last edited by capkid; 04-20-2013, 09:20 PM.

Edit: You may want to try just replacing the bottom buffer, since the top appears to be ok based on these readings. If you don't see any small pinholes in the top buffer's chips, it's likely the buffer is ok. There still could be internal chip damage, though.Last edited by capkid; 04-20-2013, 09:39 PM.

Wait i tested wrong pins should be right source to middle drain right
bottom ydrv all mosfets in diode
.019 one way and .018 the other and beep from meter
top ydrv
#1 .477 one way and 1.114 the other way
#2 .477 one way and 1.114 the other way
#3 .477 one way and 1.114 the other way
