    SK-32H240S Successful transformer repair!

    Hello,
I came across a Westinghouse SK-32H240S at work that was getting tossed for the "Two Seconds to Black" syndrome. I did a search on the symptoms and came up with the BadCaps site. I pulled the board and saw the telltale burn mark. I ordered 3 transformers @ $12.00 each on eBay. I've done a fair amount of soldering with a Weller gun type for automotive applications but never touched any IC soldering. I watched a tutorial on desoldering and bought a fancy "solder sucker". I used a pencil type 40w iron and had tremendous success. The desoldering/soldering went perfectly. Thanks to all for your contributions to this repair. Another one saved!

The TV was purchased new for the Day Program for disabled adults where I work. This was 5 years ago and there's NO money in the State-funded budget for a replacement. I was really crossing my fingers on this one. Thanks.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Desoldering - soldering BGA chip close plastic mini fpc connectors ?
        by corrize
Hello, I need your advise please ? I need to remove and replace the BGA black chip with fpc connectors around. The PCB is small, from camera.

There is no plastic component directly under, on the other face, (only fuse and oscillator I can remove if they are sensitives to heat), but there is a lot of very small smd components I don't want to desolder by mistake.

        I have :
        - hot air, and a
        ll stuff around
        - true kapton tape
        - 140 and 180 degree soldering paste
        - bismuth
        - little hot plate 250 degree max
        - the new BGA chip with probably

        Original Xbox 1.0 PSU: Foxlink FTPS-0002 Rev. B. — 12 V low, 5 V high — transformer?
        by ohren
        Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

        Measured voltages with no load:

        After rectifier diodes
        12V: 6.17 V
        5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
        12V: 2-2.5 V
        5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

Is it possible for transformer substitution?
        by mikey5791
        Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
        My questions are
        1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
        2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
