Samsung LE40B652 - Not booting fully (incomplete melody)

TV will make a chime sound, but it cuts off part way through. The TV will boot up fully if the T-con is disconnected.

    T-con: 2009FA7M4C4V0.9.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xz-i...ature=youtu.be

Found out that an IC21, a MAX8727, has a dead short on the T-con board across its internal FET.

Now to replace it. Or replace the whole T-con (but that's around £50 so I'd like to avoid it.)

My first Smart TV. Now to get an LED TV.

Frustrating. Knocked a resistor off the board while changing one IC. And it's gone... with no clue of the value. Found new T-con at £40, fairly steep but it should fix it (most were at £50 this was just added.)

Nice job diagnosing that. Can you explain more on the diagnosing process you used, you said you scoped the 13v line and then used a power supply.. I would love to see those parts in the video. The freezing technique was cool too...

I didn't get a video of those unfortunately due to low memory on the camera. But I've used my scope on previous videos so the method shouldn't be difficult to figure out.

One thing that help troubleshooting is the spec sheet of the IC, most of the time it will show what are inside the IC, in this case, Tom was able to check the internal MOSFET of the IC.

Finding out it was a MAX8727 helped a lot...

Good news is the TV is now showing a picture. Bad news is the T-con is defective because there's a green haze over the whole image which follows moving objects and is visible with LVDS setting changed to make colours different. Most likely this is due to the motion compensation (100Hz etc.) Upon looking at the T-con we had spent forty of our British pounds on, we found it to have flux around the SEMP74 (motion) processor and the motion processor's RAM. Clearly, someone had tried to reflow this board, and likely failed. Perhaps they smashed the screen in frustration and that's why it appeared on eBay. We're sending it back and buying one for £44. Annoying, but we're nearly there.

New "new" T-con fixed the TV, yay.

Great job Tom. Did you get the money back on the bad replacement board? Did you still have to pay for shipping it back?

Yes, we just told them we knew it had a reflow job done on it, and a bad one at that, and they refunded it, but told us to keep the old board. So we now have a partially functional spare board for doing tests on.

Funny, I had a similar green haze fault on an LE40A656, but it only affected every second 4" or so of the display. That too was the T-con -- probably the motion interpolation IC on that one as it did also appear affected by motion.

                      Dear all,

                      My issue is the following:
Tv suddenly started to make Strange things and went out. After disconnecting power and restarting, it tried to start but failed. After each attempt it got worse and worse. Now only the Stdb light is on and it is not booting.

I checked the power supply -> Backlight on when disconnected from mainboard, so I guess Power supply is ok.
Additionally the upper right part of the main-board makes some whistling noise -> probably issue there and therefore issues with booting

Question 1: Where should I start to...

                      by Daniel Kubica
I got a bare Dell Lattitude 5590 with missing battery, RAM, RTC battery and Storage, I wanted to put some components in it and use it as my home laptop. After adding a FRU 2GB DDR4 2400 SoDIMM RamaxelRAMI've tried booting Linux Mint from USB, I got an error while trying to boot it. I tried reseating the stick, different slot, didn't help.
I tried to boot Windows 10 installer, as that was the stock system my model came with, got a BSOD as soon as the installer started booting, different code every time. I've tried switching to AHCI mode, I've tried linux in legacy mode, I've tried compatibility...

                      by sylvain_92
                      Hi everyone,

I am trying to repair my iMac A1312 late 2009 intel i5.

First of all it was booting but no screen on internal lcd but working with external one,

                      I tried:
                      - another screen and led power board (booting no screen - same as before)
                      - another mxm graphic card (not booting missing 3rd led)

                      * screen and mxm gpu tested are 100% working on another A1312 iMac.

I putted back the original mxm graphic card and what a surprise, now it's not booting anymore even with the stock parts.

                      The main...

                      by Bimad99
                      Hello everyone,
                      I have this case a SAMSUNG NP350V5C, board number is QCLA4 LA-8861P Rev : 2.0.
the laptop was dead because of triggered 3.3v and 5v supplies, the problem solved and the laptop fired up, I tried to boot to Linux at first but the laptop completely shuts off while booting all the times i try and it doesn't turn on only after couple hours, So i decided to change the RAM and install windows 10, the installation was successful but when it was booting to windows for the first time it shut down again, But this time it is refusing to turn on even after waiting for hours....
