tom66. Since these main boards are scarce and around $100., do you think my best bet is to part this thing out?

Perhaps it is possible to install a Panasonic main board in it? If you got the wiring right, I can't see why it couldn't work.

Thanks for all your help, tom66. Swapping in a Panasonic main board, for me, would present a lot of problems. They seem to be rare too. Some have the D and DC board included on the PCB, and what about the firmware... If I had some real direction and a board cheap enough, it would be an adventure.

This was a good panel. Nice picture, good blacks. In my previous life (pre-divorce), I had a Pioneer Kuro. Awesome, awesome picture. I still get to visit it from time to time.

It is one thing to take away someone's money and home, but a Kuro? That's plain evil!

I'm sitting here watching a 46" TH-46PZ80B that I got for very little indeed. And it looks awesome. But I doubt it has anything on a Kuro. Still looking out for one to repair but they're damn well built, just like Panasonic, they rarely fail. Most often the only failure is a cracked screen...

tom66. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a main board, searching high and low. The suffix on my board is 1C. One seller told me this: "The suffix does not do anything with the board, if the part number 3850-0182-0150 matched with your board, then it would works." What say you?

If the seller says that, they should have a returns policy in case that is wrong, so perhaps ask them about that, that way you would only lose shipping cost.

Re: Vizio VP503 HDTV10a Black Screen

Tom66, using your video about testing buffer boards I tested the SU upper buffer and found five shorts. I set the meter to beep and set the black on post 2 of SU41 and found the shorts at 1, 2, 15, 28 and 31. See photos.

                My questions are:

                1. Can this be a reason that the whole screen is black, or maybe in conjunction with another board?

                2. Can this be the source of the LEDs on both Y and X boards fading out after 20 seconds and the TV shutting down after 30 seconds?

The lower buffer checked out OK. Anyway, I'm in no hurry to fix this unit. Thanks for your time.

                Regards,
                Gary

Is the screen primed? i.e. is it glowing? (Due to it being a Panasonic plasma, the black glow will be very low.)

Sorry, the pics didn't load. They are there now. Don't know about the glow. It's totally apart right now and when together, shuts down after 30 seconds. By tomorrow I'll have it together and check for the glow.

You should be testing from the "HV DANGER" point on this picture:

It may be defective then. I believe on this set you can run it with just SD or SU and get half a picture.

11th gen training manual has this for isolation if it helps at all which includes the 50PX80 models. It needs a jumper to bypass the shutdowdown detection for any SU/SD board disconnection.

My board is slightly different as you can see in the photo. Is this the L801 which you mention? I'm waiting for the mail and then I will finish putting this together to do that test.

yep, although I have assumed this has carried over from the Panasonic, I posted it up just in case you try running a single buffer board without the jumper and see no change. Then try it.

Tw, I did it with the jumper in place and got the glow(?), I think. Half the panel(lower) seems to glow with the lower buffer installed. My upper buffer has a short on the upper chip. But there are some horizonal bars. Took some photos. Will upload tomorrow. Only have my iPad running right now.

If you removed the lower board, reseating it properly is very difficult, which will often cause horizontal bars in the image.

I reseated and the situation is unchanged (you do mean the tabs, correct?). I'll try it again. I'll also try cleaning the tabs. I'm working with this panel flat down and it's difficult to raise it up to take photos. Heavy! See the photos. I've labeled them. L=lower. RAW=unretouched. The screen shots were taken in total darkness with an iPad. Also some shots of the tabs.

                                        Facts:
                                        1. It still shuts down after 30 seconds or so.
                                        2. The LED's on the SC and SS board now stay lit until auto shutdown. Good sign?

Is this now pointing more to the Main board? What tests should I try next? And I must get the tabs straightened out.

That is a classic sign of improperly seated connections. Getting them lined up is really really tricky. But essentially you can push them in and when you get it right you will hear a "click" sound and it will go all the way in.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Assuming...

Hey guys I've got a MSI GS66 Stealth 11ue-007us Board Number MS-16V41 VER.1 with a broken screen connector on the motherboard.I was wondering how I would go about finding a exact replacement for it.I can't seem to find any schematics that would help me so I'm kinda stumped.I did buy a screen connector that I thought was close enough but it doesn't really invoke much confidence in me that it works perfectly as plugging the screen into sometimes does output a "glitchy" image for just a few seconds. So now I'm kinda in a cross road where I'm pretty sure it could be a faulty screen but I...

                                            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Hi I am new to this kind of repairs but I want to learn..I have a Samsung UN65JS8500F. the TV used to work and I tried to fix darker areas in the middle only ( img 1,2,3). I thought the led strip were bad..not the case. I did not research in advance what kind and where the LED were located. In this model they are located vertically on right and left side. Took the TV apart and put it back together. Now the tv shows no welcome screen and no sound is available thru the speakers. ..just a black screen..Backlight LED do turn on...also noticed a 5 blink code , not sure if that was there before. I can...
