42lg30-ua lcd right hand dark shadow

I have 2 42lg30-ua's purchased at the same time on About December 2007/2008 about equal run time on both sets..

On the right upper corner on both sets I have a dark shadow now one is slowly getting darker around the edges on the bottom? The other is just barley noticeable.

During normal t.v. play with colors it is barley noticeable but on white look out it is awful.

I am thinking it may be the inverter board or caps in power supply but have not opened up the TV. Does anyone have a parts list of the caps in the power supply would like to just replace them as read that it is a common failure in this set.

I was Also told the ccfl bulbs could be bad but I am unable to locate for this set.

    Photo Attached.

Unfortunately this is a problem with the LCD panel -- the backlight layers are discolouring. It is possible to fix it, but you have to disassemble the LCD panel completely. As far as I know it's more common with Chi-Mei and Chungwha LCD panels, which LG used in some of their sets. (They use LG Display panels, i.e. their own, in their better sets.)

Thanks, Disassembling will not be a problem.. Just have to see if it is worth the money to replace the CCFL's if I am going to replace them I want to replace them all. Wonder if they could be dirty? or just failing...

Not the CCFLs. It's the backlight film layers.

I had this TV with 4 bad CCFL's and it killed the slave inverter board. I replaced the bulbs from another 42" set with a broken panel, just had to solder the new ones in. The bad ones did have dark spots on them, but your problem looks different. As Tom says could be those layers..

I will have to research the backlight film layers you have any reading material you can point me to? Or should I just replace the sets and use them for 50BMG target practice

I had a similar issue, and I just washed the layers and left them to dry for a few days.
Whatever you do, please don't break them, that would be a waste. They are usable, so donate them to a charity or sell them.

Are there any tutorials for removing the film layers?

You have to disassemble the LCD to the point that can access the panel ribbons, then remove the LCD panel itself (be very, very careful not to damage it, it is about 3mm thick), put the LCD on a soft, clean suface (marks here will appear on the screen so keep it clean), then access the film layers.

I wish I made a video of it last time I did this, it's quite an involved job, but it does pay off.

Yea, Sounds like I am just going to replace both tv's when finances allow.

                    Thanks for the help..

SMEG induction cooker error EA on both left hand side cooktops
                      by Gjackson
                      Hi all,

I have a SMEG cooktop with a EGO 72.08041.002 power board. The two left hand side cooktops started to slowly fail, sometimes stopping with an EA error (Power board failure according to the manual) after a couple minutes boiling some water and eventually they completely failed and now get an EA error on both of them at all times. Visual inspection of the board went over ok, I checked the IGBT's and rectifiers and they seem fine, what should I look at next as this is the first time I'm fixing an induction cooker, I'm suspecting capacitors in this case, Which ones should I look...

MAG274QRF-QD 27" gaming monitor half backlight shadow
                      by kalemaroni
A customer called me up and said that half the screen was like a shadow - presumably the backlight has partially gone. I've never done a repair like this on a monitor, only circuit board based repair on Macbooks etc - is it something that's doable or generally not?

Laptop lcd shadow on the low right corner
                      by myth77
Today i received laptop that has fallen to ground...and was not turning on...i manage to repair it but it is now powering but with shadow (dim backlight) in the lower right corner. It is not broken...and i can see the screen...its just like backlight is not working or semi working in that part. Its not lcd cable problem, that i checked.
I dont know can that be fixed? I am not expirienced with screen repair...Thinking maybe is some led from backlight gone bad...then again maybe its panel or flex cable!? Anyone had same issue?

Accidental slip of the hand caused a spark on Capacitor. Is my PANEL killed in action?
                      by Axis937
Hi folks, newbie here. My intention on a working monitor was to test for voltages on the various pins. Somewhere near the ribbon to the monitor, there we 2 caps. One was reading around 5V and the other was maybe about 12 or 14V . Cant really recall. Then it happened. The multimeter kissed the 5v cap and the other cap. Spark appeared. NOW... the part where the spark happened ( Caps near the Last ribbon cable ) is now totally white. 1/6 part of the screen is white. From my little understanding , i came to learn that there are transistors inside the TFT panel. Could that be a issue then? I have removed...
