Technika LCD 15ID-107 black screen - going black

    Hi guys

I wondered if any of you clever people could help me out with this one....

I have a Technika 15ID-107 LCD TV which keeps going black after a few seconds.

When turned on, I see static, then a blue screen (because of no signal) then it just goes black.
The power light on the front stays on.

From reading other threads, I'm sure someone can advise me.
I have changed most (if not all) of the caps on the PSU board but it's made no difference.

I have attached a pic of the board.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

This is most likely "2 seconds to black". There is an inverter on the power supply which might have failed or a CCFL bulb in the panel. Whether it is worth repairing for a 15" is up to you.

      Thanks for the reply Tom

It's one that was donated to me because it broke. I thought it'd be nice to have in the workshop for testing other devices but if it's going to be too much grief, I'll feed it to the bin

      Thanks anyway

If you'd like to repair it, I would suggest a potential replacement of the CCFL with an LED light?

If the TV has a 12V rail you can use a strip like this, cut to size:
        http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODEL-RAIL...item4d0820d2fa

A 30cm strip is likely to be fine.

I have done this before on a 15" LCD monitor, those strips are more than bright enough to use with a 15" display. It's the most economical way. If the CCFL is broken (common failure) it will be at least £15~£20 to get a replacement, I regularly see 15" LCDs for £0.99 collection only on eBay.

          hmmm

          sounds like a plan.
I often have other broken LCD monitors at work, I could try pinching one from there.
If it's the inverter though, am I likely to be able to pinch one from anything else or would it have to be matched by part number exactly?

          Thanks

You would need to match part # for the whole power supply assembly (inverter and PSU in one on this model; the inverter transformer is near the pink and white wires.)

but if I ordered one of those LED strips, that would completely bypass the problem and the screen would still work?

For the sake of a couple of quid, I'll get one ordered

              Thanks

Yes, I bet the TV still works fine with the light out, you just can't see anything.

Just hook it up to the 12V supply and see how it goes.

It will also use much less power, less than half of the original power consumption.

Hi Tom, the LED strip, so how do you link them up for long string and still use 12v? Each strip with 3 LEDs and two leads per strip, then if I want to use 4 strip to make one long strip, how do link them with all the wires? Thanks.

Each segment is three LEDs in series with a resistor, multiple segments in parallel, and can be cut with scissors or broken apart carefully. Just feed one end 9~13V. Each segment uses about 50~70mA.

I use ones like this on my model aircraft to locate it when I inevitably crash it. Run great from a 12.6V Lipo battery and really rugged. Must have crashed over 50 times and every LED still works fine.
