LG 37LC2 Sound still not right - running out of ideas arrrgh!

    Hi all

First of all, big thanks to Tom who helped me out with a working replacement sound board (which btw Tom was an exact match!). Unfortunately I've put it in and the distorted sound persists. Bugger!

So.. today I went to maplins and bought some more caps for the PSU. Replaced a few more (one being 10V despite asking for 16 or 25V if they didn't have it bah...) and the problem still persists. If anything, I think it's slightly worse now I've replaced more caps.

I'm running out of ideas here guys. The missus wants the window ledge clear, I don't want to be defeated and I've got loose bits of TV and screws all over the place and the memory as to where they all go is getting close to fading

So.. any more ideas out there? Whats the LCD screen worth parts wise if I stick it on ebay as a spare part?

You replaced the capacitors with Maplin specials? They are not suitable for power supply use. Also, you must replace a 16V cap with a cap rated at least 16V. 25V is fine. 10V is not.

Hmm you have a point about the caps - I just bought any old stuff I could find. Maybe I should try again online with special audio caps?

Oddly though, I've used their 470uF / 25V caps in PSUs on LCD monitors in the past with no probs..

        Tom,

I've just found this on ebay - a capacitor pack for this PSU. What do you reckon the odds are of that working out if I get it? (sorry to put you on the spot but you know more about this stuff than me!)

Don't bother with cap packs. I would replace the original caps, as the Maplin ones would not work well. You do not need audio rated capacitors. You need low-ESR caps.

What kind of audio distortion do you have? I would be surprised if you have a power supply issue causing a sound problem. I have worked on 50+ flat panel TVs/week for the last 8 years, and I have probably encountered 2 with sound problems caused by a power supply issue. Most often it's a main board issue.

The board has been replaced (courtesy of Tom) but another thread here with the 32" TV (also LG) had a PSU problem with the caps that solved the sound when they were replaced.

This is the link to the pack of PSU caps that I forgot to post earlier - only £9 odd and they're suppoed to be suitable replacements for the originals. Any thoughts? (Sorry tom forgot to mention that it was specifically a repair pack of caps for this PSU lol)

That kit seems to be a replacement for the caps that the other guy mentioned in the last thread I was in so kinda seems to be hinting that they're a common problem.

                Plus £5 postage.
Not worth it IMO... you could buy all caps separate from UK ebay supplier.

Yeah maybe but I wouldn't have a clue where to start frankly and that kit is already assembled and ready to go. Thats not my real issue though, the real issue is do you think it's suitable? OR do you have anywhere else that I can get them?

I believe sghill is one of the few US ebay suppliers who can be trusted. However if replacing what was in has made it worse why not just put back the old ones and see if you can find anything wrong on the main board. If all the voltages out of the power supply with everything connected are correct AND remain steady that is as much as you can hope for.
