Samsung UN46C8000 LED tv not powering on

Well the title says it all. My two years old Samsung UN46C8000 tv is not powering on. It just makes clicking noise but never turns on. Nothing comes on the screen not even a flash. Power led turns red when I plug the power cable. But when I press power button on my remote it just clicks every five seconds. I do not know what is going on with the tv. I called Samsung support they told me it needs service. But it is out of warranty so I have to contact the local repair center. If any of you have the similar issue and know the fix for it please let me know.

    Thanks

The PSU must be power cycling.

Try disconnecting the LED backlight, and see if it fires up.

P.S. Some pictures of the TVs' guts would be helpful!

On most newer Samsungs, you can disconnect the cable that runs from the power board to the main board, and then, when you plug the unit in in this condition, the power board and backlights should come up. This is a good quick test for Samsung power supplies and backlights.

I have the same issue. Was there ever resolution? It is obviously the power board but, is there any specific part to replace? It sounds like a relay is clicking. Not sure what part to replace though.

            Try Randtek's test first.

what am I supposed to be doing? I disconnected the output of the power board to the main board and I didn't get anything. Then I disconnected the output from the main board to the power board and I got the same condition that I had before with the clicking and not staying powered.

Ooo, this thing uses plat pack planar transformers.
Ths power supply board may not have built-in pullup resistor for the PS_ON, BL_ON so it will not be on when no cable connected between the power supply and the main board.
What is P/N for this power supply board. There are two set of cables between the power supply and the main board, are there any labeling on the connectors?

I swapped the power board and it worked! I put it all back together and it didn't work again! There is something shorting out. It may be something on the main board? I did notice that it looked like the may be a solder on the main board that is grounding out and shorting out the power board. Now, it doesn't work and I still don't know what the problem could be.

We have seen some LED TVs on here where the LED strips short to ground due to frayed wiring.

Did this ever get resolved? I have a similar problem with relay clicking on my Samsung LED UN55B8000XF. I have been searching the threads and the picture of your power supply is almost exactly like mine. I have replaced a few capacitors based solely on the word that this is the most common fault. I also have one fuse that keeps blowing out. Did you have that as well?

Re: Samsung UN46C8000 LED tv not powering on

Well, I swapped the power supply board and it started working. Then just messing with it, trying to figure out what the actual problem was it stopped working again. What I have concluded is that there is a solder on the back of the board that shorts out to the chassis. I haven't replaced it again yet but, I am pretty sure that is what problem is...
If you were to swap the board and just only put the screws on the top side of the board it should be fine. The screw in the middle on the bottom side seemed to be where the issue was, when i tightened it down it would stop working again. I just kept doing it to make sure that is what the problem was and that is when it stopped working again. I am assuming when I kept doing it over and over to test it, it shorted out the board again.
The part number for my board is BN44-00362A, is that the same for yours?

it looks like this is the board for your tv, which is different than mine. So your problem may or may not be the same thing I am experiencing. As far as I know the capacitor problem isn't with the LED tv's.

                                Hi there,

We just had an electrical storm nearby. Fried two DirecTV DVRs and the TVs attached to both.

                                One is Samsung UN46C8000.

No response of any sort to pushing power button.

I've never attempted to fix or diagnose a TV but am not afraid of some basic electronics, multi-meter testing, etc.

Any advice regarding what to try first would be much appreciated! Not sure based on previous notes in this thread whether I would expect disconnecting power board (assuming I can figure out which one it is) from main board (same caveat) would actually be a valid test.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I expect the Backlights to come on when you remove the power cables between the power supply board and the main board, if it does, then the power supply board/LED driving circuits are OK. Post good clear pictures of the back of YOUR TV so we can see what it has.

I would say start with the power board since it won't power on. I never got mine to work again but, it is a different issue. Part #BN44-00362a

This tv is weird because you can't get the backlight to actually work without having the power board to connected to the mainboard. There are pics that i posted of the back of my tv in earlier posts.

Pics as requested...can send more hi-res if these aren't good enough. Last two are just details of part numbers.

I disconnected the two cables from power board to main board, but not sure what I'm supposed to look for when I plug TV in after that...

No obvious sign of life when I plug TV in.

Is there anything I can test with basic ohmmeter or voltmeter that would give more clues?
