I hate it when you're right.

Well, as I said before, the unit wouldn't power up at all.

Upon taking out all the screws, I notice one missing, CRAP. Now I'm looking for more signs that its been worked on already. Yeah... recap done already to 3 caps out of 4 usual capxon's. Why they stopped at only 3, who knows. Maybe those were the only ones bulging. Then I look down and see a burn mark under the two diodes... CRAP. Its lifting a trace on the other side of the board and possibly damaged R930 - surface mount. Checked the main fuse, CRAP, It's blown. Deep breath....OK, time to go to work on this thing.

I got to pull those two diodes and see what part number they are and verify polarity. The strange thing is that they aren't showing signs of being burned themselves, only the board. It makes me wonder if they have been changed already.

Could the scenerio possibly be that since the original half recap was done, leaving a bad one still in, this caused the diodes to overheat then blowing the main fuse before the diodes could get toasted???

      Re: Philips 42pfl5432d backlight

That's not too badly done. Caps are good Chemicon KY. The other Capxon isn't bulging so technically the repair is complete -- customer bonus (assuming a TV tech did it) to have the other one replaced I guess.

There's too much flux there (just clean it off with some IPA), and they've probably used a 1N400x instead of a TVS, but find the right parts (Page 52 of SM: http://www.tgohome.com/ServiceManual...&Search=Submit) and you should be golden.

        Re: Philips 42pfl5432d backlight

        Thanks Tom for the help.

The parts list only shows "Trans Suppr 120V 5W" for both zenor diodes (ZD902 and ZD904).
        My two questions are:

        1. What are replacements for these?

        2. What would be possible causes for these to heat up?

By the way, I checked the resistor and it's fine. Schematic shows that it's a 1K ohm and it reads 1K in circuit.

          1. What are replacements for these?
          Any 120V TVS. e.g.

          2. What would be possible causes for these to heat up?
Bad caps, inadequate design, take your pick.

Thanks, I just placed the order. I had to get some more solder wick too so that helped.

              Re: Philips 42pfl5432d backlight

Well, just to update my progress... I have replaced:

              C955 - crapxon
              ZD902 - not bad - got hot
              ZD904 - not bad - got hot
              Q902 - Shorted
Fuse - Blown 5A - Still looking for a replacement. I know I have one on hand.

Once I get the fuse, I will test it. I hope nothing else is blown on this board.

Use a lightbulb in series for testing to avoid blowing more parts.

I forgot to update this. The TV worked after I replaced the parts listed above. This will be a birthday gift for my dad. Sucks that I cant find a remote though.

                    Philips TV Backlight Repair
                    by chestercc
So i'm trying to replace the LED's in a Philips TV. It's 42" with a 715g7262-p01-000-0010 backlight driver board based around an O2 Micro OZ9902CGN.

My issue is when I replace all the LED's on one board with the new 3V 300ma ones they immediately burn out when the set is powered again. I previously tried the same thing with 6V LED's and the backlight flickered for a bit but wouldn't start.

The original LED's which I removed which are still working start to melt and burn when given more than 3V on DCPS so I know they shouldn't be higher voltage ones.

                    ...

Trying to control Philips backlight manually with PWM — brightness increases with frequency...?
                    by ohren
I raised the question of whether PWM on the power board "dim" pin would be a reasonable assumption for controlling the backlight of a Philips TV (55put6101/12): https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...d-tv-backlight. I didn't receive any insights there so I went ahead and tried it.

                    The setup is basically:

                    Rpi3 hardware PWM → 220 Ohm → NPN transistor → dim pin

Transistor is switching the 3.5 V supply on the power board....

Philips 55PUS6804/12 turn on & off (probably backlight issue)
                    by ovrax
                    Hello everyone,

First of all, please excuse me as I'm quite new to this field.

I have a Philips 55PUS6804/12 TV. It turns on and off instantly (backlight flash). I personally think it's a backlight issue (faulty LEDs). Could you help me confirm my diagnosis?

I've checked and the T-CON seems to be fine. I disconnected one ribbon cable at a time at the bottom, but the problem persists.
The Ambilight works perfectly and stays on.

                    No sounds.

                    Thanks in advance.

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

philips 55pft5500/12 Backlight issue. What am I doing wrong?
                    by DoOm86
TV philips 55'' no backlight (image ok).
I tested the backlight with my led tester from the unplugged connector cable and it lights up. I had voltages at the motherboard connector, but anyway I order a new psu. Same problem, same voltages. Disassembled the TV and checked every strip with my led tester, they all light up, same voltage for every pair of strip (they go two by two).
                    What am I missing?

And something else I don't understand. I checked and I have 3v Leds, 10 per strips. Why every pair of strip (so 20 Led) take about 32v when powered up with my led tester 🤔
