[QUOTE=tom66;281945]So, what, are they repairing it or not?

They are not, they backed out of the deal at the last moment.

THe Panasonic huh? Okay, I'll research it a bit.

Hmm, sounds like a bad move to me -- are you going to worry about following it up?

I really don't know what else to say to them, I already told them that it is only 29 months old, that we paid $1000 for it and it seems to be built to break and be replaced. And now they want me to pay to fix it when they already got 1K of my hard earned dollars?

Well, you got so far and the last rep just told you no? Try again but ask directly for the manager. It has worked before with Samsung. Especially mention that you've researched it on the internet and found it's very common so you think it's a design flaw that they should put right (it is; and they should.) If it's were $1,000 of my dollars (or about ÂŁ600) I'd be on the phone until my ear was bleeding. I don't want a company to get away with that by selling me a shoddy product.

And regarding a TV, downgrading from 46" to 42" in the plasma department could save you a lot of dough (Panasonic tighten up the prices in this area to be competitive with other offerings from Samsung and LG.) With a slightly smaller TV, sit closer to it. You won't notice 4 inches .

            I will try again.

on another note, here is a pic of a Philips 42" Plasma that I have no idea what is wrong with it.

Bad buffers or X-main; most likely X-main. (Samsung plasma panel, I think.)

(Yeah, Samsung's plasma offerings aren't very reliable either.)

It's probably only 720p but yeah, definitely. Maybe ~$40 to replace the board. The boards are pretty common in older sets, so possibly less.

(Note -- if you intend to fix it, open a separate thread and start by posting clear photos of the inside of the set.)

Right hand large board connected to those orange ribbons; but let's keep this in a separate thread as this should deal with just your problem (right now -- arguing with Samsung and/or selecting a new TV.)

Get the part # of the board (will be BN4x-xxxxxx, BN9x-xxxxxx or sometimes LJxx-xxxxxx) and report back in a new thread.

They rebadge cheap tat (mostly from China); avoid. Someone on here had a Seiki TV for repair, and the build quality left a lot to be desired.

Re: Samsung 46" LCD vertical colored lines

The industry would like you to believe that but plasma is typically better, especially for black levels. Almost anyone can make an LED LCD panel nowadays. It takes hundreds of millions in research to make a plasma panel.

Thing is, each pixel in a plasma display is self-emitting, that is, it can emit its own light. Which means that with a good design the pixels can be told to stop emitting light almost completely. An LED LCD panel has a bright white LED backlight and an LCD in front of it. The LCD's job is to block out the bright white light using colour filters. But it's not perfect and a lot of light leaks through. So you have a poor contrast ratio, and everything black has a muddy grey colour to it. Motion performance typically isn't as good as a plasma, though nowadays you'd be hard pressed to see the difference.

And don't judge plasma on that old Philips plasma; it's using a very old generation of plasma panel which won't perform anywhere near as well as a new generation.

Ok, I did some shopping today and have narrowed my choice down to 3. First is that 46" Sony Bravia KDL46EX640 above, second is a 42" Panasonic Viera TC-L42E50. Both LED and available to me right now. My third is the 50" Panasonic Viera TC-P50U50 that I have to order.

I am really drawn towards the Panasonic plasma, I saw one at the store that is out of my price range, but the quality is awesome! So my question is out of my 3 above and based on your experience what road would you take?

Re: Samsung 46" LCD vertical colored lines

Personally, I'd avoid the Panasonic LED. Panasonic have very little experience in the field; it's just going to be using a Samsung LED panel most likely, like the Sony (which will use S-LCD, but that is the same as Samsung, just Sony-Samsung teamed together in 50-50 partnership, but it's essentially the same, just with some Sony customisations.)

My overall choice would be the plasma any day, for the reasons in my last post. Is it possible to get the 42" version of that Panasonic plasma at a lower price?

p.s. The Panasonic plasma is available at $701: http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-P50U50
                                      the Sony is $900: http://store.sony.com/p/46%26quot%3B...n/p/KDL46EX640

The U50 is a much lesser TV compared to the ST30, which would be my choice. I think you can get the non-3D version if you want, too. The ST30 has a very deep black level due to improved panel construction and is more efficient in terms of power consumption.

Actually, I just realised I was wrong about the Panasonic LED; it's going to use Panasonic's own IPS Alpha LED display. That used to be owned by Hitachi before Panasonic bought it out a few years ago. I think you can expect better reliability, but the picture quality is probably going to be the same as the Sony LED.

The Philips is most likely the buffer boards, it's more like $130 both boards.
I have fixed two of those. I have kept one for a while.
                                          Good TV, just very heavy.
I still have a bunch of buffer board chips, if anybody wants to adventure in replacing them, let me know, I can sell them very cheap. I don't have a use for them.

Colorful LCD Vertical Lines on Samsung ue55es8090
                                            by Falki
Hello there, ive recently found an older 55inch Samsung SmartTV.
Sadly it has vertical lines at the left and one line in the middle-right.

I have already tested out the connections and have looked at the soldered ribbons of the LCD panel to see if some contacts got loose by pushing them a bit but with no success.
I have factory resetted the TV as well but also with no luck.

I am afraid that it is indeed a LCD Panel issue but there are NO scratches or any impact-marks..

A similar issue has been posted as well but also with no actual response ...

                                            Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                                            by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Colored Vertical lines on Samsung UN55C6400RF TV
                                            by Maverick1234
                                            Hi,
I have a Samsung 55inch TV (UN55C6400RF). It has started showing colored vertical lines. I have opened the TV and the power board had one pin (out1-) which is discolored (Model # bn44-00358b). Can this be bad or is it the T-Con board (Model # D03464E0J09B6012066). Any recommendations on diagnosing the issue?

                                            Thanks,
                                            Sanjay

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

Thin stable coloured vertical lines on Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC come and go

                                            Greetings,

I've bought a used Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC LED TV. It worked fine for some time and then developed, at first, a single very thin (1 pixel) vertical stable blue line, from top to bottom, close to the left edge of the screen. Now it's 3 lines on the left. When I connect HDMI sources the number of the thin lines grow. After disconnecting and cold discharging I am back to 2 lines. The lines disappear at a rate of 15-20 minutes per line. So it does not look like a damaged LED panel. Any advice? Thanks...
