    sony bravia overlay

I'm looking at buying a 32" sony bravia lcd with some overlay from top to bottom. (Less than a year old)
What usually causes this, and is it worth buying for $40?

I can't search forum right now, my tablet browser closes every time I try.

We would need to see a picture to know what you mean.

I have no idea what an overlay is. Like, a colour? Noise?? Work with me here...

i assume picture image overlay, but not sure.
i think the top few inches of picture shows up overlayed(on top) on the screen, at the bottom.
i will see if he can send me a pic of tv when it is on.
          no big deal

Not sure if the one you are looking at has the same problem as the one I reseated the T-CON connector or not, but it looks similar.

Beware. I've run into this. There is a 75% chance the lcd screen is bad.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Yeah, that's a bad screen if I've ever seen it. Fixable sometimes, but tricky.

Don't buy it unless the boards are worth a fair amount of money. The panel is defective.

Well, the 52" Sony came in today with the pictures look just like in post 6.
I have a spare T-CON from another SONY with cracked screen to try out on this one,
                        Yep, the screen is bad.
This KDL-52VL150 is made in 2009.

So I am saving the boards for the next repair.

I have the chance to buy this same type (kdl-52vl150). I think I will pass on it thanks to the info found here. I have also found other info on the same matters dealing with Sony Bravia's. Not worth the money for how much the guy wanted for it.

Follow-up: I got it fixed, took the panel apart and use the rubber pad on the bonding tabs on the left top of the panel, been watching it everyday so far so good. Now I am looking for another one with the same problem, easy fix for $50 TV.

Nice... However, I am trying to avoid them since the 40" disaster. Was a nice Sony too -- we chipped the edge of the panel while working on it!!! And it doesn't work any more...
