I have a Toshiba rear projection tv, 57H82. Turned on the tv today and there is no picture, sound is ok. I have tried different inputs from DVD and VCR but get the same problem, no picture but sound is there. Any thoughts? It's possible that my stepdaughter played with the tv settings but this is completely denied...obviously. Is there any way to do a complete tv reset for factory settings? I'd like to try everything i can before i call in the repair guy. Thanks for any help.

Re: Toshiba rear projection - Sound but No picture
I've taken the back off the tv just too look at the boards. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong (i can tell the difference between a cap and a resistor) but what do i know, there isn't any odd smell or any brownmarks that i can see.
I've noticed some "white gunk" around 4 capacitors that are close together. I'm not sure if this is just a glue that is there from when it was manufactured so a tech would know if it has been tampered with or if it's from the capacitors. I've taken pictures but don't know how to upload them for you guys to see.
Thanks again. -

I'm always sorry to hear about a big tv problem. This link may be a little help, or not.
Where is the tv? Mine went out yesterday when lightning struck, It's ok because the surge protection did it's job.JimComment

Re: Toshiba rear projection - Sound but No picture
Thanks Arneson.
Didn't find any help through that link. Good point on mentioning the lightning. I live in central florida and the afternoon before i realised the tv was bad there was a huge thunderstorm. My roommate mentioned that her surge protector had tripped on her pc. The surge protector on my pc didn't trip and it's fine, neither did the surge protector trip for the tv and other components. Everything else is on that protector is fine; dvr, dvd and vcr.
I found a TV Repair guy who charges $45 to take a look at it, then if he fixes it he applies the $45 to the final bill. Only bummer is i had to take it to him. We'll see what happens, i'll post what the problem is for anyone else it may be helpful to.
Fortunately i only paid $1000 for the tv when it was retailing at $1800. I got it from SamsClub and the screen was slightly damaged. Nothing to affect the picture at all. That was 3 1/5 years ago. If it's gonna cost more than $500 to fix i'll say forget it and go by a plasma or lcd. Fingers crossed it's less than $500.Comment

Re: Toshiba rear projection - Sound but No picture
I looked at what they said about sound no picture.
Not surprised that the advice says, horizontal output is blown.
To bad some tech won't come to you. The TV world is changing as more people have big built in sets that are not meant to be taken to shop anymore.
The in home repair is going to have to come back, and doctors as well.JimComment

by MgiffuneI have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started βfading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.
I ordered a supposedly βnew' Tcon board this time, and... -
by jord4231Hi Everyone,
I'm working on a Toshiba 37AV500A Regza TV.
The issue:
TV was working picture and sound went out. Green stand by light stayed on, It will respond to the power button being pressed (goes in and out of standby)
The TV will very intermittently work for around 40 mins then stop. This doesn't seem to matter if its hot/cold unplugged for a while etc.
I checked the PSU voltages and everything looked good.
No bulging caps or signs of heat.

by IerwinHello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged... -
by jchangHi all
I was just given a Samsung TV with the issue. I read various threads and videos and attempted the ribbon tape method to gain an image, but no luck.
Symptom:
No picture no sound.
When I plug in the power cord, Backlight LED turns on for a half second and then turns off. The red LED next to the power button located center bottom flashes 2 or 3 times. When the power button is pressed after, it does the same thing.
No sound at all.
What I tried:
1. I tried unplugging the left or right ribbon... - Loading...
