Didn't find any help through that link. Good point on mentioning the lightning. I live in central florida and the afternoon before i realised the tv was bad there was a huge thunderstorm. My roommate mentioned that her surge protector had tripped on her pc. The surge protector on my pc didn't trip and it's fine, neither did the surge protector trip for the tv and other components. Everything else is on that protector is fine; dvr, dvd and vcr.
I found a TV Repair guy who charges $45 to take...

I've taken the back off the tv just too look at the boards. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong (i can tell the difference between a cap and a resistor) but what do i know, there isn't any odd smell or any brownmarks that i can see.
I've noticed some "white gunk" around 4 capacitors that are close together. I'm not sure if this is just a glue that is there from when it was manufactured so a tech would know if it has been tampered with or if it's from the capacitors. I've taken pictures but don't know how to...

I have a Toshiba rear projection tv, 57H82. Turned on the tv today and there is no picture, sound is ok. I have tried different inputs from DVD and VCR but get the same problem, no picture but sound is there. Any thoughts? It's possible that my stepdaughter played with the tv settings but this is completely denied...obviously. Is there any way to do a complete tv reset for factory settings? I'd like to try everything i can before i call in the repair guy. Thanks for any help.
