Sanyo DP46848 - Thin Black Lines & Some Shadow Flashing

As you can see in the pic, I have some small black lines that seem to be fixated on the screen all the time, Then I get more blacks lines that are flashing when the images get bright and/ or flash. All at the the top 1/3 of the screen

I have pulled both boards that are mounted to the back panel, checked and reflowed many solder joints (None looked cracked). Also taped down all wires and ribbon cables, crammed foam rubber between the 4 ribbon cables that goes from thr T-Con board to the LCD panel, at the top. After all this, The TV seems to work good, but when it warms up good, It starts to get the dark shadowy flickering, that comes & goes. Is it worth replacing the Master & Slave boards? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. We paid over $1100. for this thing when it was new. About 5 years ago.
    Thanks........ Sick over my LCD....

The black lines are more than likely caused by a panel failure. It is not worth repairing at that point.

      Hey rayrod81,
Thanks for your reply. I suspected that, but didn't want to admit it. As for the solid black lines, I can see the picture behind the black lines. Does this mean anything, or is it still a panel failure? What causes the dark flickering? Thanks.

Usually these lines are caused by loose connections at the edges of the panel and can, in some instances, cause the screen to start flashing. I have seen this a couple of times and it was either the result of a small crack at the edge of the screen or just a loose connection that developed over time.

Thanks Again for your knowledge and insight. You've been very helpful. What is some of your top picks for new flatscreen TV's? Should I go with LED, LCD, Plasma? I'm looking for reliability, and reapir-ability. I know most of the big brand names are probally the best. What are some 40 inch & up TV's the stand out, in your opinion? Thanks Again,

I am partial to plasma TVs myself. IMO plasma TVs have the best picture by far. They produce more natural colors and deeper blacks. Panasonic, LG, and Samsung are the most reliable brands and no matter what kind of TV you choose (Plasma, LED, LCD) you can't go wrong. Parts are readily available and if something goes wrong in the future then repair won't be a problem. Depending on the features you are looking for when it comes to the TV plasma will give you the most bang for your buck. LCD prices are competitive and sometimes cheaper than Plasma but that is usually for entry level 60Hz sets. LED TVs are still more expensive but are getting closer to the prices of Plasma TVs. In the end it what you are looking for that matters. Your best bet would be to go to an electronics store and compare them yourself.

If you are going to pick a plasma, I would suggest Panasonic IMO, usually full of good caps and well engineered. LG and Samsung cut too many corners. True for anything but their bottom end "X50" 42" 1080p plasma (full of crap caps.) My order of preference is Panasonic, LG, Samsung.

LED is a bit of a joke in my opinion -- fails to deliver on its promises, and we are seeing quite a few now start dying.

Thank You ALL !!!! I'll keep in mind, your words of wisdom, when & if I take the plunge again. This is the second LCD TV that has let me down. I got about 4.5 years of this Sanyo. I had and Emerson before that, And boy, was that a piece of crap. Lasted about 14 months. Barely out of warranty.

I just fixed a Samsung 40" LCD for a family member, that had a cracked solder joint on a cap, on the power supply board. The Samsung was much easier to work on too,,, Thanks Again.

I haven't repaired a LCD Panasonic yet(not dealing with plasmas, to reflective the screen, expensive to repair and to heavy).

That 50" plasma I tried to fix before I broke the damn screen was actually quite light, only about the same as an equivalent LCD, maybe a touch heavier. As for more expensive it depends... if you're willing to dive into component level repair they're generally easier to do so, unlike an LCD where main board and t-con faults usually require replacement boards, plasma sustain faults can be repaired.

I suggest you consider your next purchase at Costco. They give a 2 year warranty on all their TVs and have reasonable priced extended warranty options up to 5 years.

I usually never buy extended warranties, but the pricing from Costco makes you think twice.

                      http://www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?...ended+warranty

For example, you can get 5 years total warranty for $100 for any TV over $1,000. $20 annually to protect a TV > $1,000 is attractive to me. Obviously, check the terms and conditions and fine print.

PS. I prefer plasma for picture quality.

Older Panasonic TVs are built like tanks, but remember that's only a 720p TV. I would go for a 1080p Panasonic plasma, such as TH-42PZ70. (I can personally vouch to this as being the best TV I've ever had the pleasure of watching -- and it was 5 years old when I fixed it. Early 1080p plasma from Panasonic, and WAY overbuilt. One of the 6 paralleled mosfets on the SC had shorted, nice easy fix.)

As the Elitebooks (820, 840 all gens) only show flashing Power LED and flashing CapsLock (continuously) + a very soft "ticking" noise near the DC Jack,
I wonder if re-flashing the BIOS might be of any use here.

As far as I understood, steady flashing either means insufficient power or a CPU/GPU/Motherboard issue. I use the original 65watt power supply.

There are so many threads out there, but most of the solutions involve flashing codes, which I dont have or claim that you MUST use the original power supply, do a hard reset, reseat the RAM, clean the RAM,...

I am in the jungle visiting family and I always try to fix all their electronics while I am here

A few years ago I gave a family a TCL LED55P65US tv, and now i am back and it is having some issues.

There are constant, shifting horrizontal lines across the screen and the screen flashes every 1.5 seconds or so, as seen in the attached gif.

Ive been through a few troubleshooting steps and no luck so far.

Does this seem like a possible T-Con board issue or does this seem unrepairable? The tv has been in a high heat and high humidity area, and the...

Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

                            Hi all,

I dumpster dived a 1440p Dell U2518D screen the other day and figured I'd take a crack at fixing whatever issues it may have. I powered it up to find that even with no signal input the screen flashes rapidly when turned on and has vertical lines across it. I disassembled the monitor and took pictures of the 3 circuit boards inside it along the way.

The three circuit boards are labeled "power board l6256-1m", "LED Driver BD L6257-1". and "Interface Board L6127-1". if anyone has schematics for any of them it would be much appreciated...
