Oh crap, sorry mate really hoped it would not blow. it does say in the training manuals you can isolate one at a time. I assume it went on the first board tried.

Did you retry the old SC? Sounds like panel could ok but shorted buffers.

That's the trouble giving advice when things go belly up, I feel terrible.

I'm afraid it's most likely killed SC if gone SOS6.

Re: Panasonic Plasma TC-P42U1 my first plasma

      I disconnected su40, sd42, and sd46 and tried again.
This time screen lit, saw rainbow colors
Then I saw smoke from ic605 on the su
If it wasn't already bad sd/su are now.

Because of the fuzzy rainbow effect I saw on upper part of screen I think the screen is bad.
I'm going to remove sd/su and recheck sc to make sure I didn't blow it up

Re: Panasonic Plasma TC-P42U1 my first plasma

I removed sd/su and left jumper on sc50
Sc board seems to be running fine. Green led are on both sc and ss
Good news sc is good still but

Do I risk buying the sd/su?

I may be looking for a deal on:

        Su- TNPA4784

please do, I hope it's ok. I'll sleep better then. i would'nt assume panel is bad though if the buffer was shorted you can see weird effects. If panel was bad I'd expect no display.

Any chance it looked like this?

I can't reproduce it now to take a pic but it did not look like the pic you posted
It resembled more of a localized impact with fuzzy rainbow colors spreading out.
            No sign of a crack.
Part of the screen is lit white

what training manuals do you have? I know Tom had posted some links up for some info. may be best to get other opinions. At least I'm confident I got you past everything else. panel and Su/SD only things left. I still feel panel could be ok. If you have 2 good Sc boards maybe try and sell one and invest in the buffers or obviously quit and sell the bits you know are good.

I wonder why nothing smoked the first time you jumped SC50 and isolated the Su/SD? I think I read that as one of Tom's suggestions early on?

Ok, well my experiences run out right here then. Does sound a little suspect, maybe you're right about it being defective panel.

If you could find some buffers really cheap maybe have a go with the expectation it still won't work. Sometimes best to walk away but to learn sometimes you have to take a chance.

I've had only one bad panel, could not find crack either in a Sanyo but I had nil display and very weird buzzing noises moving around. tom helped me out on that first time experience. only loss I've had in a dozen TVs.

i found these but jimmy is more reliable and right here in MN.

                    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buffer-TNPA4...item2a24d8d43e

the first 2 time i jumped sc50 and tested sc board i removed them completely.
the only reason im worried about the screen is it came from a pawn shop so it could have easily been damaged while on display.

agreed and even if they knew they'd probably use claim ignorance. I see a few sets being sold here overvalued and saying unable to test because they've lost the power cord from pawnshops.

I have read of people buying from SJ and being able to return the item if it turned out not to fix it although I'd enquire about it first because I don't think it's standard policy. They may take the buffers back minus a fee so a little like renting the boards. That may be an option, at least you won't lose completely.

I'm really hope it's just the boards and you have a win. Good luck.

I have used SJ a couple of times although freight is pricey for Australia, but have found them pretty good and they're very helpful on the phone. Had the pleasure of talking to one of theguys there once.

i decided to look close at the screen and found what i think is a short that caused sd/su buffer boards to go bad.

                            what do you think?
is this a short in the first 2 pics?

If i follow the lines horizontally from where it is shorted it connects to SU3 ribbon connection and that is where ic605 fried.

i scraped it with my nail, it appears to be between the 2 glass layers.

the pics are with the filter screen removed so if it is dirt, it got there durring manufacturing because 2 glass panels seem glued together and it appears to be between them.

I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

I aquired this Panasonic 60" plasma around the time my first child was born. It was meant to be a project tv, hoping to fix it chipping away at the repair in my free time. Well that was 2 years ago and i'm really just getting around to making a sincere effort to see if I can ressurect this beast.

The symptoms of the tv ar as follows:
                                • Plug AC in to back of TV
                                • After about 2 seconds the relay on the P-sub board will click on and then a fraction of a second later it clicks back off
                                • The 3 blink code is given by the power LED
                                • If the TV is unplugged and then
                                ...

                                Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

                                Hi All,

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I have a Panasonic Plasma tc-p55vt50 that's about 9 years old and has just recently stopped working :-(

I noticed that when I turn the tv on I hear a click then screen comes on for like half a second then shuts off and the led blinks 6 times.
I did some googling and found several video's on trouble shooting all sorts of blink codes. I finally came across one that showed 6 blink error code but for a different model. It recommended disconnecting the SC board to determine if it was the A board or power...
