    Voltage regulator question!

Ok so I am working on a 32" Craig LCD TV (cheap piece). Of course I cant find any info on it, but thats ok I have fixed a few TV's..lol. So a lightning storm blew the TV. Testing it, I found that only one AMS1117 regulator is getting Vin...So I jumped 5V to the next one in line and the TV works! This also makes it so all the regulators now have Vin....So my question is, I know this is not the proper fix, but will this be ok to run 5V straight to the regulator. I am not buying a board for this TV, because it is soooo not worth it. So just wanted a second opinion on if I should install a proper jumper wire for the 5V and call it good? Thanks!

If you can try to find out where the Vin pins are connected to, may be it is from the output of another regulator.

I checked everywhere I could(with no manual) and could not find the supply...very frustrating. Because the TV is cheap, the main board in the size of smart phone..lol. The tracers are very hard to see. I will continue to look, if you think the jumper idea is bad..

Can I see the picture? Also point out which one is not getting the Vin, and the one that gets the Vin.

The continuity feature on your multimeter is your friend in cases like this.

Yes I totally agree! I have used continuity tests to find that there is a break from the 5V input connector to the voltage regulators that ARE NOT getting power. Just can't find the open/break in the circuit...

So all the one with white circle are the one that do not have Vin, but the red on is the one that is working? Also which one that you inject the 5V into the input pin?

                  Re: Voltage regulator question!

Yes that is correct. the one I injected was the lower left one(next to the SMD arrow). Also wanted note that the continuity test shows that Vin on that same regulator is grounded...

                      Re: Voltage regulator question!

You will probably find it uses more power in standby, but not enough to be too concerned about.
