    Only the vs voltage was to high and would not adj.
    The vs potentiometer feeds back input to the controller ic that drives the FET(s) That drives the transformer that creates the 207v scan.
    The excess voltage was cooking my sustain boards.

      Hummm... I have a couple of plasma TVs in my storage that are not working... I should take a look. Now were the sustain boards in working condition still?

        In my case I had a bad lower buffer. After replacing the buffer the set had artifacts and sparkles in the pix upon further checking I found the(vs) voltage was at 230v to 235v and would not adj to the panel requirement of 207v
        The excess voltage equals to excess power (heat) that the sustain modules have to dissipate. probably the reason the buffer shorted in the first place.
        I got lucky the buffer didn't take out the y sustain with it.

          Well, as I said I really need to find some time and take a look at the TVs that I have. I don't want to say I have given up on plasmas but I have put them off to the side. They just tend to confuse the hell out of me and they are not as valuable at resale so I tend to stay away from them now. It drives me nuts that when there is an issue with a plasma, next thing you know half of the boards inside have a problem it never stays to one spot.... You know what I mean? Well, I'm happy for you that you were able to sort out the problems on your TV! Enjoy it!

            I don't find plasmas too difficult, in fact I have never had a buffer take out a sustain, on both Panasonic and LG, although not Samsung I suppose... They are more valuable than many LCD TVs and failures tend to be easier to find.

              So wait a min... You think plasmas is an easier repair than LCD? Out of all the TVs I have done, I'm like 1/5 on plasma and 10/12 on LCD... If you have a trick when it comes to plasma, please, please, please fill me in, I beg of you! I have 3 Plasmas sitting in my storage right now that I would love to turn into some cash!

                Post some threads.

                I have an oscilloscope, I guess that helps. Very valuable tool, essential for some complex LCD repairs too.

                It's true I've repaired more LCDs, but that's simply because they're more common, and my failure rate is the same for both of them, around 5-10%.

                  I have an oscilloscope as well, I just go ape shit on the plasmas because it never makes sense to me... I will have to go pick them up and give it a shot again, as soon as I can clear some of my client's computers and such out of here, then I can go back to playing with my toys!!! I need them to fund my electronics habit (which is worst than crack) so they have to come first, unfortunately... lol!

                          Nice breakdown of the batteries! I will keep that in mind... I don't like anything that makes noise so I will put the crappy ones in all his toys and tell him it's broken! lol!

                                4) Since I don't physically repair TVs myself (only virtually by helping others), I don't watch many TV repair videos as most of them tend to be crap, but norcal715's stuff is really good. Even if you don't have the models in his repair videos, he has a ton of tips and excellent info.

                                  This is him replacing the sustain ICs... I didn't know that they suffered from so much heat damage and it wasn't a good idea to replace the sustains with used boards... Makes sense though. I have a BGA welder so maybe I will get to turn it on one of these days and swap out a sustain IC or 2.

                                  Thanks for the links, as I said I have just watched the video but his channel seems to be the shizzzz-nit! There is enough there about plasma TVs to keep me busy for a little while. I'm going to bust out my note book and start taking some notes. Again, thank you! If he is a member it would be nice to talk to him as well, hopefully someone knows him and maybe we can get him to become a regular on here! That would be awesome!
