Your 3.4V is fine then, the ON signal is >=2V which is good. I suspect the main board...

If I'm right about this TV it has a board with scart and audio on it and one with HDMI on it? I have a spare board for it, but I'm away from home right now.

Yes sounds about right, I've snapped a pic of it for you with the boards and the back panel on. It also has PC - serial and optical on it along with PCMCIA.
Which board do you have and how much do you want for it?
Shame when TVs like this go wrong, it seems pretty nice but people don't seem interested in repairing them anymore. I got given this by someone who didn't want it due to the sound distortion - he has a TV repair shop just round the corner!
I've got that same board, I go back in three weeks but I can ask my dad about it. I would only want £10 for it as it's just taking up space and anything saved from landfill is good. I also might have the large digital main board but I can't remember if I used that.

2V on P201, 3.4 on P202 and 3.4 on P203 (I see what you meant about the metal now - in the top of the connector with the wire!).
Also my 5th LED isn't lit up just like tmcw's TV
PSU buzzes very slightly but nothing I'd call alarming..
As Tom said, the set will get the Freeview channels, but not any of the HD channels, just the SD channels.
I never got the 5th LED to light up, so if you figure it out, please do let us know.
I know it's been a while since I started the thread and got my TV working, but I only began using it in the past few weeks, and like yourself, noticed that there is a buzzing noise from the set. But in my case, it's not from the PSU, but seems to be coming from somewhere near the middle of the mainboard. But to confound matters, it seemed to be coming only on certain AV selections, for example, I get a low pitched buzz on DTV/TV/AV3, a higher pitched tone from AV1/AV2 and when on the rest (SAV2/AV4/COMP/RGB/HDMI/DVI), the set is silent.
Then on the ones that are buzzing, I found that going into the menu>picture>psm, and switching to Dynamic or Mild, the buzzing goes away. Further messing and I found that going into the user1 or user2 settings and playing with the contrast value in particular could make the set whine high or low, or go silent.
I don't think the buzzing on mine ever came from the PSU, even before changing the caps.
Have no idea if this is normal behaviour or not, but would be happy to hear of anyone elses observations.
Also, forgot to say that even though 4 Sanwha caps were bulging, I did get an ESR meter later in the summer, and tested them, and they tested ok.
For me, changing the caps near the 3 connectors was what sorted the distored sound. As mentioned in post 3 above, I was changing them one at a time and testing, but got fed up with that, and just changed them all, bar 2 I think were associated with the 19V line.
Are you getting the 6V where it's expected? I think that's related to the sound, so fixing that might restore your sound.
Not checked the 6V (dumb of me wasn't it) but will do that at some point.
Reason I've not checked? - The damn thing is on a bay window ledge, the markings are upside down (despite the bottom of the TV being at my side of the ledge) and it's quite a back straining excercise reaching over with a mag glass, reading them upside down while holding a torch and two MM probes! Ok, whinge over I'll get onto that in a bit..
EDIT: Actually, I got a feeling I did test them yesterday but only on one connector.. ah well I'll test em all again
6V on all 3 connectors is ok but there is a hissing / buzzing coming from the big yellow transformer area. Not sure if its the transformer itself or the caps. Would changing those out make any difference? - I can't see it myself but thought I'd ask.
It's pretty typical for SMPS transformers to buzz.

Well I've checked the voltages that are marked and they're all ok. There are a few other weird ones marked out
P201:
DIM
BRI
ERR
I
ACD
P202:
Seems to be the connector for the sound board but no weird markings on this one. Checked the voltages on the connecter on the board itself and they all seem to be there but I only have a MM - no scope
Any idea what causes clipping apart from voltage? - tom has offered to help in a few weeks with another board but obviously if I can get it fixed up before then I'd like to try!
Maybe I should look at turning it into a wall mounted PC monitor
I've got that same board, I go back in three weeks but I can ask my dad about it.
Hi mate
Did you mange to ask your dad about the board yet? (sorry, not sure if you meant you'd ask when back at home or ask before and then send when you're back)

I forgot I've got an extra week here . I go back on the 8th of December. I'll check around then, it's in the shed somewhere.
