Westinghouse SK26H590D Blue Light/No Video No Sound

    Hi All!

i have an issue with my grandmas LCD/Dvd Combo Computer.

After a thunderstorm, she said the computer no longer works. The blue light goes on when you power the Tv on, but it does not turn off with the remote. it doesnt show any signs of video or audio. it has a built in dvd player, which is also unresponsive.

i took it apart, and all the caps look good. (i recap motherboards almost everyday, so i know what those should look like) Theres no major burn marks, or anything like that. all connections have good connectivity. tried different outlets, different inputs, different batteries in the controller, nothing. i tried the flashlight trick, and still no picture.

i feel like this might be a power issue? ive seen stranger things happen with bad power supplies on computers, but i am unsure about this one.

i agree with your feeling, start by checking voltages which should be marked around connectors.you only have to be missing one and it wont work.

you also may have a problem linking off site pics because a lot of people wont even look

Hi- In your post you mention computer twice. Combo Computer
and "she said the computer no longer works"
Is that correct or is it just a TV with and DvD that is also connected up as a computer monitor.
Is it used as a tv and is it connected via cable or aerial.

Prior to the storm was there any problems with it.Was it normally left in standby - Did it always come on first time.
Does the screen flash at all when it is switched on.

As awyatt2 says check the voltages at the connectors and list them like this
        CN1
        PIn1 12v actual 0v
        pin2 5v actual 4.23v etc etc.

Can you do pics of both boards - (component side for now) (remove the heatsink plate if it is just screwed on) and also re post the ...560.jpg.and a close up of the connectors to go with the measuring.
Pic should be (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) posted using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

another note on bad caps max, that which looks good may not be good. high esr is no good on these power boards. i have pulled a lot of them that looked brand new but esr was off scale on them.
next thing yoou may or may not be missing more than one voltage, only one can and will halt everything.
i had one that had 21v to the inverters and it was dead in the water,3 volts made this happen, it was a perfect looking startup cap, when i checked the esr 25.0 ohms a 47@50v. all voltages were less than .5v of where they should have been the inverters were where it showed most. still the main was not fully starting and neither was the tv.

Thanks for the replies. and sorry, i meant Tv. it is not used as a monitor for a computer. (been listing too many computers on ebay lately lol). before the storm, it worked fine. she watched it alot, but never had a problem with it. it is only a year and a half old. The screen does not flash at all. The speakers make no sound. The blue light comes on, but i cannot turn it off. ( i can turn it on with remote or power button, but neither are responsive when turning it off.) 542

after reviewing these readings, i was a bit conspicuous about my Multimeter (which is brand new) so i did some testing on batteries i have. i have 7.2v batteries, and its right on the mark. i also have a new 9v battery, and it is exactly on.

is it possible the led light in the front of the tv is powered by the 5v rail that works? if this is true, i feel like the power supply is the culprit. but i feel it is not as easy as a new cap replacement. probably a new board?

Typically the main board receives 5V standby from the power supply. The main board is responsible for signalling to the power supply to turn on via PS_ON (or P_ON in this case) pin. The main board also controls the power LED.

If you get 5V standby and no power LED, then post a picture of the main board.

PS. P_ON is power on. Some manufacturers toggle this pin "high" (i.e. > 3V). Others toggle it low (from 3V to 0V).

Have tried published resets with no help. (unplug for 10, push on-off for 30, push menu and vol +, etc.)

After being plugged in, red light comes on. Push power button and blue light comes on for ~five seconds then goes out. Power button does not turn the unit on a second time - have to unplug/re-plug before power button will try to start with blue light.

No sound, no picture (used flashlight test).

No bulging cap, no burn spots, no burn smells, nothing visual (cold joints/breaks/bugs).

PS5 EDM-033 Blue Light 2 Sec then Powers Off
                by TurboTundra
Hi, I am waiting for my uart tool so I can grab an error code and narrow down where my issue is, but I decided to measure capacitors and fuses to insure everything was okay.

The PS5 turns on with a blue light and a beep for 1-2 seconds then turns off. I noticed a grey capacitor measures no voltage on standby or input power. Does this indicate a problem with the capacitor or something down on the line? I’m getting 3.3v on input with the red cap next to the grey one, and 5.2v on input with the red cap further away from the grey cap.

                Thank you for any input...

Ok, so I know I know, it's a Westinghouse....lol It's got the backlights but no video. Likely the panel, but I'd like to take some measurements on the buffer board with help from you experts to confirm. See the attached pictures. In pic #1, there's a nice pin reference to use to take some measurements. The large IC in pic #7 gets up to 60degC when the TV is on.

So, backlights, no video, go! šŸ™‚...
