Strange issue with Echostar DVB Freeview box solved

A while back my dad had a problem with his TV losing colour intermittently. I immediately suspected a fault with the TV (I believe it's a JVC built by Vestel) but after loaning him a 32" LCD, the same problem occurred. So, the problem was clearly with the video source - the Echostar DVB Freeview receiver.

First impressions - Very well built. Nichicon and Panasonic electrolytics across the board. On board mains PSU (I like it better than wall wart.) Labelled test points. Designed in UK. Single chip MPEG Freeview solution (ST OMEGA.)

When I got it to test it powered up fine, but after a few minutes the sound went away, then the picture froze. Then the box locked up entirely. I also noticed a strange hissing/buzzing sound from the unit, almost like burning components (but nothing was excessively hot.)

After unplugging it and plugging it back in again, it did the same a couple of minutes later, then it wouldn't power up at all.

Thinking about the colour problem I cleared up a few of the joints on the SCART connector. I redid a few other joints, they were all fine. I checked all the electrolytics - not a problem. Hmm...

Eventually I noticed a little burn mark near the tuner can between two pins. A path of conductive residue had built up here (I'm not sure how) and this was the cause of the burning sound. The board was a little discoloured around the area. It was shorting the +30V for the tuner out to ground, but only occasionally. This was causing the PSU voltages to dip, causing the box to do a whole load of freaky things.

    Another strange one fixed...

Onn 100012588 backlight issue *Solved 70 inch
    by EazyBone
Had another one of these 70 inchers from onn and was same problem as others. The picture shows but no backlight. The backlights test fine. The issue is the 450v 10uf capacitor by the backlight connector. Usually the cap bulges, the cap I replaced today for fix was NOT bulging. Replaced anyway and fixed.

    Hope this helps someone....

    TCL 65S455 backlight Issue Solved
    by EazyBone
I got this TV and it showed a picture with a flashlight. I assumed it was backlights and almost ordered them. I used the led tester and both lines were 132V and lit up. I then check the voltage on the lights and there wasn't any. I looked around a bit and found a shorted Diode.

As shown in the picture the diode 3200 read shorted. I ordered a replacement off Amazon and back to working! While searching for the diode I read it could effect other TCLs as well such as the 43 inch.

Just helping out of someone needs it. Good luck...

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
    by rounin
    Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

    🛠 Original Issue
    The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
    by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

    Hello guys!
I have a strange issue with my laptop keyboard and I'm lost trying to detect what's wrong - the KB9028Q-C or the keyboard itself.
It powers on OK and has no other issues except the following:
    • CAPS LOCK does not work at all
    • Fn button toggles Flight Mode
    • When I press 't' or '5', it produces 't5', and when I press 'y' or '6', it produces 'y6'
    • (with SHIFT pressed: 't%' and 'y^' respectively)
I initially thought it was a keyboard malfunction (internal short, etc.),
but when I press and hold...
