65" Sony DLP blue pixel issue

Dear badcaps forum members. Recently I was helped with an issue regarding my 42" LG with inverter issues. Replacement parts are in route and hopefully it becomes fixed.

    On to the subject matter:
I was able to acquire a 65" sony DLP with a blue pixel issue for FREE on craigslist I do not have any pictures of it yet. It came with a custom base. I was hoping to use the picutres off from craigslist but it has since been deleted. I wanted to share my find with all of you and will continue this thread after I pick it up on Monday and tear into it!!!

I think the blue dots are caused by a faulty chip in the light engine. I'm sure you've been doing some research on it. Good luck.

If it's free, then you still get a very nice powerful lamp, projector lens, power supply, and Fresnel lens.

Well I've before I ripped this DLP apart I couldn't get it to even turn on. I realized I had left the door to access the lamp at the gentleman's house. He is on vacation this week and I won't be able to get it until next week. In the mean time I used a plastic capped pen to push the little lever down and it fires up.

Some of the pixels are blue, and I figured out it was in the optical block. For anyone else that ever has this issue/ is wondering what I'm talking about this link on youtube is VERY HELPFUL. It is a complete breakdown of how to remove the optical block and then take it apart. It is the same for most Sony DLPs.

If you go to the 7:50 mark you can see what I placed a picture of below. Mine is indeed "broken". Again, fast forward to the 9:00 mark and the polarizer is flawed. Mine has this same issue as well.

My question to the badcapforums members is: does anyone have any leads on where/who I should contact to purchase these items from. The video recommends:
        http://tristatemodule.com/p-16567-99...polarizer.aspx

        http://tristatemodule.com/p-16423-so...cx043axxx.aspx

Those are the two links and is exactly what I am looking for. At $80 dollars each it (free shipping if I buy both from TSM), I don't think $160 is too much for a 65" Sony DLP. The lamp is brand new, the gentleman before me bought it thinking that the lamp may be the issue. Obviously that doesn't make any sense.

*The flaw in the block is in the bottom right corner of the picture. Actually The bottom left when taken from a correct angle. Couldn't take it straight on as the flash reflected and couldn't capture the issue.

I do not think that this is a DLP TV - it is a 3 LCD rear projection with the optical block plaque that Sony was sued for several years ago. If you disassemble the cube with the 3 LCD panels attached, it will be practically impossible to reassemble it and have an aligned and converged picture. I do not recommend that you invest that much money on it.

The end of the video I posted shows how to realign the panel in order to get overlay, and how to adjust the diffuser to get proper lighting. I'm not trying to get perfect 1080p, perfect lighting, perfect picture on this thing. I just want a massive TV to watch some games on and some video games.

Look carefully - a "harvested" module. $80 bucks is ridiculous. You can probably find a faulty one if you look carefully (sometimes people throw them out perfectly working!), then you can harvest its parts for spares. Same parts for 42" I see ads regularly for perfectly working ones less than £50 here.

                Well, it's completely fixed.

In response to CRTfool, it is indeed possible to realign the colors. All you have to do is not touch any other lcd panel or polarizer other than the ones that need to be replaced. I bent a fork tip in order to slightly tap the edges of the polarizer and lcd panel in order to realign them within a few pixels of where it needed to be. Once I had them aligned I tightened the screws to lock them in place.

Most TVs have a pixel realign option in the actual menu itself. I just let it do auto and the color is only off by about 1 or 2 pixels. It's actually not even close to being noticeable.

I know that tom66 raised the issue about being able find a harvested optical block from various free tvs listed on craigslist. This may have been the case but overall I don't think that the $210 I have spent on a 65" DLP is that bad. Obviously there are cheapers ways to go about this but I am extremely satisfied with the results.
