Re: lost what causes a dim picture on a sony DLP tv ..with even a new bulb? ballast?
I just picked up a Samsung DLP - same problem - the acrylic lens is all cloudy instead of clear. Have you looked at the lens and mirror to see if they are clean and clear?

Re: Farewell, Minidisc
I did not know that they were still in production. I always wanted this technology, but it was way too expensive when it came out. I finally acquired several portable MD player/recorders and 1 MD home deck over the last 2 to 3 years. Very interesting and cool technology!

I asked earlier what you had, and you responded as quoted....Last edited by crtfool; 02-03-2013, 06:36 PM.

Re: Got lots of junk, what should I do with it?
If you are just going to trash or donate this equipment, then I would be interested in the Core 2 Duo laptops. I will pay reasonable shipping costs.
Can you list some model numbers, and what state of functionality or missing parts for each?Last edited by crtfool; 02-03-2013, 06:17 PM.

Re: Neon Indicator bulbs/resistor
I know that all neon lamps have a resistor in series with the bulb - I'm pretty sure that they are not talking about the actual resistance of the lamp itself.
I just did some research, and it seems that the resistor is for current limiting purposes.Last edited by crtfool; 11-23-2012, 12:44 PM.

Re: Neon Indicator bulbs/resistor
In theory, with a smaller than required resistor, you will get a higher voltage applied to the bulb - it could either be a bit brighter, or it could burn out much quicker. Why don't you just buy a replacement resistor to match what the bulb requires?
Or, since you are planning on buying 5 bulbs anyway, just try 1 and see what happens - the worst is that you would kill 1 bulb prematurely. Tape the remaining bulbs to a space inside the chassis if the refrigerator for future use - this way you will be able to find them when needed.

Re: How to check LCD Screen for Cracks on a dead TV
Look at it in direct bright sunlight - you will see all the cracks.
I bought a set from someone who swore that the screen was not cracked - when the sunlight hit it, all the cracks that he said were not there became visible.Last edited by crtfool; 10-27-2012, 12:23 PM.

Re: Stumped by Sony board connectors
As gilly said - they are soldered to the board - now you need to see if you broke the traces when you tried to remove them. If you must remove them, you have to unsolder them.

Re: Sharp LCD TVs in general
Open it up and see if there any loose connectors that are not pushed in all the way - I picked up an older Sharp for $5 that was doing the same thing, works perfectly.

Re: Samsung LCD 26" full white screen
I know that you can get a totally white screen if you disconnect the Panel from the T-Con, or the T-Con from the main board - I do this all the time to check the status of the CCFLs. It most likely is the T-Con that has failed.

DYNEX TV - Please Wait....then 3 Seconds to Black
I just picked up a Dynex DX-L26-10A LCD TV that is giving the infamous Please Wait.... screen when it powers up, then the lamps turn off after 3 seconds. This TV was manufactured in October 2009.
I can't see any image on the dark screen, I can't get it to recognize a playing DVD player - so the Input Button does not seem to change the inputs, the Menu button also does not produce an image on the dark screen.
I get a fully lit white screen for 3 seconds upon power up with the T-Con board disconnected from the main board, so I know that all the lamps are functioning...

Re: Despearate for BIOS help
You will have to disassemble it and remove the BIOS / CMOS battery to reset the BIOS to default settings.
Download the service manual here:

Re: Sony KV34XBR910 removing Flyback leads
You can't remove them from the Flyback. You have to remove the Cap from the CRT - it has to be discharged first due to the retention of high voltage. The other two need to be unsoldered from the C-Board, or just carefully remove the C-Board from the CRT and let it hang loose.

Re: Green Screen of Death on Compaq nx9010?
A lot of laptops with IDE drives will have the HDD jumpered as a Master, and the CD/DVD drive jumpered as a Slave. I have seen this configuration very often.

Re: Sony KDL-32L4000 Smudge on Screen
I do believe that it is pressure marks, but the only to find out for sure is to disassemble the LCD / Light Box assembly into 2 pieces - with the LCD panel removed from the light box and power up the TV with everything still connected. The light box should have a clean lit white surface without any dark spots - if this is so, then the LCD panel is damaged. If not, then the film filter sheets in the light box have been infiltrated with dirt, or they are heat damaged. You can also shine a very bright light through the bare LCD panel itself to...
