Vizio 2 seconds to black issues

60" 2006 Vizio Plasma...You power up & after an intermittent time (few seconds to few minutes) picture goes black; audio stays on; power stays on.
Phone call to local repairman says probably motherboard, $1000 to fix.
Do you have any suggestions about what I could check inside?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Moving to the TV forum... PLEASE do not ask specific questions in the FAQ...

Also edited the title to reflect the topic.

as for the actual topic, there are a few things... you have what is called "2 seconds to black"

the issue is likely in the backlight inverter section of the PSU board. Look around where the backlights plug in.

    the common causes:

    - Bad caps (post what brands you find in backlight area)

    - Poor transformer soldering (as a precaution, on 2 seconds to blacks, I always resolder the inverter transformers).
--which leads to blown transistors and diodes (if none of the above fix it, then it is probably this.) you may have to buy a kit on ebay due to may LCD transistors being proprietary.

    - bad backlights (since both are behaving the same, I doubt this).

If you are good at soldering, I'd start by resoldering the two or more inverter transformers... do them one row of pins at a time, or else the transformer will fall off the board (and they are not fun to re-attach to the board). by resolder, I mean using a desoldering braid or a solder sucker to remove the solder on each joint and then soldering the join again, by hand.

OP states it's a plasma. LCD "2sec to black" repair guide won't work if it 's a plasma.

Need a model numberto determine if it's a plasma or LCD.

I am having the 2 seconds to black I will be resoldering the transformers tomorrow, is there a way to test the transformer once it's off the board to make sure everything is good or if I need to replace.

Not sure about which transformers you are talking about here? if it is on the Visio in the title there seems to be confusion as to whether it is plasma or not.

If you are meaning back light inverter transformers then there is a guide to test here https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10419
start at post 20. - You can test them in circuit and only need to remove if you think the test has failed.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Thanks i will take a look, I have a LCD so it should be able to test, the only reason I want to test is one looks like it got pretty hot. I will be starting my own thread if the test and the resoldering does not help the issue. Thanks for the link.
