Do you get any light from the screen at all? YYou might need to turn all the lights out and close the curtains as it can be very faint on some plasma displays.

Yes. There are two flickers of light when I power on.
The screen has low level grey glow in dark room. Not noticeable in daylight.

That's good. That means the screen itself is probably good.

It would be rather nice to determine the cause. Strangely enough, we have been having startup problems with a Panasonic rear projection (and still are) and the Samsung,having been barely used and very reliable was being moved to replace it. It would be good to get one of them fixed.

Well, I'm going to place a bet on the plasma control board being at fault, because you have sound and the startup chime. But I can't be certain.

Start a thread for the Panasonic.

No, it's the board that connects the main board, sustains and X drivers together.

I can get a good used board for $40(refundable less $15).

There is a fuse. It might not look like a standard fuse. Post a picture of that board.

I don't gamble, I like to verify a board is at fault first.

Since you think the logic board may be faulty - that's the first place I will start.
Board purchased. Will report back when installed.

Replaced the logic-main board. No change.
I am scrutinizing every board for a sign of overheating or poor connection. Nothing found.
It's hard to believe that this failure occurred without making any snap, crackle or pop of any sort.

Next step - I 'm thinking of trying another main board. Is that a likely or unlikely candidate for failure?
