Vestel LCD TV, long shot and long distance challenge

I've recapped a few devices now, mostly preventative, though now I'm wondering if I can possibly get help with a TV that I have in our holiday apartment that went faulty the last time we were out there.

It exhibits classic bad caps syndrome, a cheap (not cheap to buy though!), Turkish LCD TV that started not coming on (no sound or vision), after being left over the winter months unused. Then when we left it on standby, by accident really, it sprang into life, worked for a few days then went into a cycle of taking a long time to come out of standby and turning itself off and on at will. The last time we were there it pretty much wouldn't come on at all.

Problem is its 3,000 miles away and I only know its a Vestel Telestar 42" LCD bought new in 2008. Is it likely to be a well enough known chassis that I could buy the caps in advance and take them with me to recap the power supply?

I know its a long shot, but it would save me a lot of time getting it fixed, (possibly), ie. taking photos next time I'm over there in the spring, identifying the caps, and coming back to the UK to buy them, then fitting them the next time I go out.

Is it well enough known what the power supply would be in it to take an educated guess at what caps to take?

Thanks for your reply, no it isn't that one, and I couldn't find it listed on that site. I suspect its not a currently for sale model.

I'll have a look and see if I can find it listed, failing that I'll wait till I go over next time and take photos of the insides.

Old models are usually still on there, but you can only find them via model numbers or names.

i.e.: If you search for "telestar" and select LCD TV's, you'll see a few with no price. Those aren't listed in the normal LCD TV category anymore (as they're not availbale), but you can still look up specs, model numbers or pictures.

Thanks again. I've searched for Telestar under LCD and 10 models come, none of them are the one I've got.

Unless I can find more details for you recap experts I'll wait till I go over, I'll have to be patient.

Re: Vestel LCD TV, long shot and long distance challenge

I've now got some pics of the inside of this TV and wondering if anyone can identify it, and help with the bad caps to replace.

Symptoms are still the same, power LED comes on when plugged in, when trying to turn on it will sometimes turn on for a few seconds, then go off by itself, turning on and off at random, though mostly off. During this time power LED, which is also the standy LED flashes constantly.

            The PSU board is: FSP294-4M01 AND P/N 38S01 4831 4GP

            Would anymore pics be helpful?

Any advice with identifying the caps would be much appreciated.

Update to add, seems there is a kit of caps other components available for this symptom on this board:
              http://www.ohmsupplies.co.uk/epages/...roducts/KIT118
Except now I'm in Turkey! I'll see if I can source those caps and other parts locally before returning to the UK.

there are probably a few capacitors under the aliminium covers on the power supply it may be helpfull if you could remove these and post pics up then we can highlight them for you.

It doesn't look like a Vestel IMO. Far too well made. Vestel make cheap crap.

The FSP PSUs for TVs often have bad caps on them, especially CapXons.

Re: Vestel LCD TV, long shot and long distance challenge

Thank you for the replies. The kit I linked to lists a few other components besides the caps as a fix on this board, though being surface mounted I think I'll just try replacing the caps first.

It seems to be the same PSU/Inverter board that's used in the TEVION LCD4202. I'll replace the CapXon ones, though think whatever I get locally will be a temp fix, and I'll bring 'proper' caps back out with me next time.

These two groups are the ones included in the repair kit for this board I linked to earlier:

Anyone familiar with this board, have any first hand experience?

It does look well made, is it a Vestel chassis?

Re: Vestel LCD TV, long shot and long distance challenge

I've changed 7 caps, 5 of them CapXons and the other two were on the list in the repair kit, and still have the same symptoms. The 5v standby seems OK at approx 5.12 volts, though the +5v, 12v and 24v are all absent, though as the TV isn't coming out of standby that's probably why.

I couldn't get anything other than general purpose caps from a backstreet repair shop. I was hoping they would be good enough to power it up till I can bring better ones out.

Is it likely that the new caps I bought just aren't suitable?

I haven't ordered a kit yet, to do that I'll have to wait till I'm back in the UK. I thought it did show symptoms of bad caps, even though they looked OK, and also only became faulty after being left for nearly a year unused, time enough to dry out low quality caps...or so I was hoping.

Seems though as you say, I'll need to replace all the components in the kit to be more sure of a fix.

No ESR meter, so was hoping for a bit of luck.

I'll take the board back to the UK, get the repair kit for this fault and fix it there.

Thanks for the tips and help.

as you have said it is probaly is a bad cap but which one and if these power supplies are troublesome maybe the kit and extra bits is the way to go.

                                  Hey guys.

I have this TS-651 NAS that turns on with no activity or POST.

These units have the Celeron clock problem, which is not the case of this unit as measured the 25MHz signal at PIN1 of LPC connector, and its fine.

But it does not post. all coils have power when turned on.
Does not bip without ram or any USB activity. No HDMI output.

I tried to look for a BIOS dump for this model, but unable to find.
Contacted QNAP support, they only accept repairing the board, they dont give BIOS files. amazing.

                                  I know...

It is not worth repairing...

                                  Hello guys,
I have a problem with my laptop as in the title, black screen, capslock displays error code 5 long 3 short, no voltage on the coils above the CPU, before removing the drive I had 0.8v there, power led flashed 5x long and the battery would not charge (current jumped from 0.5a to 2.8a), now on the power led I have a steady white light or orange when the battery is connected.
                                  What I did:
                                  - Laptop was not detecting ram, loose pins on ram slot, error 3.2 disappeared, ram working tested in another laptop

As far as I know the laptop was in another service center...
