    Akai LCT3201AD

    Got this TV for free because the person who had it couldn't figure out what needed to be fixed on it. After opening it up, I found a total of 8 bad caps.


    Power Supply

    2 CapXon KF series 220uF 25v 105 temp

    Tboard

    6 Decon SAII series 220uF 16v 85 temp


    Based on the little info I can find about these two capacitors, I think I've found replacements, but I wanted to get some input on quality and to see if I had the right replacements.


    For the CapXon caps

    But I notice they only have 2 of the Decon replacement in stock, so what would be a good quality alternative that I could use?

    RAT POISON CAPS!

    First look up ESR & Ripple specs for old caps. - TT series won't do it for KF.
    Second, never buy 85C caps. They last 1/4 as long.

    [Note: For all practical purposes: Impedance = ESR at 100kHz.]

    Want ESR the same or less.
    Want Ripple the same or more.
    .

    SAII is a GP cap but, for what it is, it has pretty good ripple.
    Only -good- replacement I know of [for the 220uF 16v] without going to an 8mm cap is Chemicon LXZ.
    [Those come up so often I buy 100+ at a time.]

    You figure out the KF replacement and tell us - so we know you 'get it'.

      So based on what you said, these are the replacements I'm looking at now.

        What were the symptoms exactly?

        Can we get pictures maybe?

        I had an AKAI where it's only problem was the power jack.The capxon's got to go. lol

          Symptoms were:


          When plugged into a power source the red standby light would turn on. When you hit power the green light would flash for the briefest of moments then turn red again. The unit would not turn on for any reason and when attempting to turn it on, there would be a slight clicking and high pitched whine from the Power suppliy board.

          Here are pic's of the affected boards and where the caps were removed.

          Tboard



          The Labels on the locations are CE3, CE14, CE25, CE29, CE16, and CE4. They are all Decon Caps.

          Power supply



          The Labels on these locations are EC12 and EC15. They are located under a heatsink and are the CapXon caps.

            Those look like good choices for the stated caps.

            On Akai you should recap the whole power supply board.
            Those Megmeet PSUs run very hot and the cheap Chinese caps just don't last.
            [Mine had some 10mm 1000uF 16v that I replaced with a higher grade 8mm 1000uF 16v due to availability at the time. That might still be the case.]

            There are usually a few larger caps on the main board as well.
            At least do the 8mm and up as a preventive measure.
            I replaced everything on the power board and everything 6.3mm and up -and/or- 470uF and over on the other boards in mine.
            .. That was probably over-kill but I didn't wanna take it apart again later..

              I usually change my caps one by one so I dont get confused. I hope you know what goes where.

                Cap Maps.
                Take a snap-shot, make it big and print it, mark right on it..
                ~~~~ Don't forget to mark polarity too........

                  All the markings on the board for polarity were correct. I checked them as I took the caps off, and I also wrote down what type of cap goes in what spot as I removed them as the 2 power supply caps are the same size and all of the Tboard caps are the exact same as well.
