Sony Bravia 32-inch, No Picture but Backlight is ON

    hi,
I came across this forum, and read some great posts. Im having some issues with my Sony Bravia, I thought of posting in this forum.

After 1.5yrs of happy viewing, my TV is having trouble with picture. Backlight is always on, but there is no picture. Its not that the picture doesnt always show up, but whenever I switch on TV I could see picture for sometime, and then suddenly it goes blank. Sometimes, this happens within 30mins, sometimes TV works fine for as long as 4hours. If I switch off the TV for 1hr, and start the TV, it again works fine!

I called up Sony CustomerCare, and the technician visited my house. He told that the issue is with LCD Panel, and the panel should be replaced {he told that the panel is very costly}. Now I'm somewhat hopeful that the LCD Panel is good. {not that Im not respecting that technicians inputs, but...}. If the panel is really damaged, then picture should never show up! But I can see the picture for sometime.

You did not post a model number but.....

You should count the number of blinks when the picture is off. Most Sony TVs have a blink code that indicates to a technician where to start to look.

What you describe is quite probably a defective LCD panel. Inside the panel are a series of tubes (CCFL tubes) that are somewhat like fluorescent lights. If one or more go defective the panel generates feedback to the microprocessor indicating such a failure. The micro in turn will begin the blink codes. This is not true of all models however.

Some techs are capable of replacing only the CCFL tube rather than the entire panel.

If the lamps were bad there would be no backlight.

      A working TV? How boring!

I can assure you it`s a faulty panel.

You are correct. I misread that.

Thanks for your replies. Sorry for not posting the full details.

            Model no: KLV 32V550A.

@Village Electronics: If you are talking about the blinks of the indicator {Manual says that green indicator turns red, and then blinks indicating the faults}, then the indicator stays green. There are no blinks. I dont know whether there was any feedback to the processor at all!

Should I post the images? Which parts of the TV should I capture?

From your experience, did you come across such strange behaviour? I've googled much, but unable to find the exact problem.

I am not sure about kvl, but all of the kdl had both t-con and panel failure.
The problem is that the symptoms are about the same and the t-cons are a bit pricey.
They did have issues with t-con boards on some models.
You would need a panel tester to be sure. I don`t have one.

I have seen about 75% panel failure and 25% t-con or other failure.

There are too many used boards for these tvs to be just from broken (wii) panels.

Before 3 days, I adjusted the panel connectors going to t-con. Im watching tv for say 1hr in the morning, 1hr in night {after work}, and its just doing great! I really want to know what the problem is! Are these panel testers bit costly? If they are cheap, i'd like to buy one and experiment with it

Well this time, the problem occured again, and there is no luck . I engaged another technician, and he told that there is some problem with protection circuit for display IC, the circuit got fully shorted. He wants me to send the TV to their lab for further analysis.

Hello, Last week I bought the 50" Sony X80j tv everything was working fine, untill I plugged the tv in a ups power supply 650va the tv remote control became unresponsive and the TV became laggy after a while the picture quality isn't the same as before the tv seems less brighter and the picture is somehow blurry, people's faces don't look as natural as before, there is a mini orange-pink tint to the edge of people's faces especially in NETFLIX Dolby Vision like in One Piece ep1 Alvida skin tone, my intention was to protect the tv but something went wrong I checked the ups with a multimeter,...

Bad Panel in Sony Bravia X850G
                          by guidodroid
                          Hello all,
I'm trying to understand what is the issue with my 26 months old Sony Bravia KD-65XG8505 (XBR65X850G).
It is just few months out of warranty, so Sony doesn't want to do anything, and the local replacement shop also tells me that it's not worth repairing (alhtough this model costed almost 1000 euros just 2 years ago...).

Few nights ago the TV started showing some horizontal lines and distorted colors/geometries in the bottom part of the screen (see attached photos).
The issue is not as bad as others that I've seen around, but is indeed noticeable...

Missing LCD Panel Voltages VGH, VGL, VCOM (TCL 55P6US Sound & Backlight but NO Picture)
                          by maneatingmonkey
I have a TCL 55P6US with sound and backlight but no picture. This model does not have a T-CON board, and the right (rear perspective) panel board is fed from the left panel board. I have not been able to induce any change by disconnecting the secondary panel board or the tape cut-off method on the primary board.

There are a bunch of voltages missing on the panel boards. I can't find any shorted caps of the panel boards, and all of the missing voltage rails read in the kiloohms, which leads me to suspect the issue may lie on the circuit board, rather than a short in the panel.
                          ...

After changing out the backlights I have a single green vertical line on the left side of the screen. Is there any way to fix it? I tried putting pressure on all the tabs and on the top of the panel but neither helped.
Does Sony epoxy all their panels or just the expensive ones?
