I have the greatest respect for the Scots. Some of the greatest achievements in engineering in the 19th and 20 centuries were made by the Scots. But we REALLY can't help you unless you give us some decent pictures. I'm not sure what that thing you attached was, but it won't cut it.

One point to check is the connector between the power supply and the main board. Most power supplies have a legend indicating what voltages should be present on each pin. Also, there is often a pin labeled PS_ON, Power On, STBY, etc. The voltage on that pin is instructive - it controls the main power supply.

Pictures are quite good; better than my last attempt (not that that's saying much).

The next step can be handled two ways. There are three connectors in the lower right corner of the power supply picture. These often have a legend indicating the function of each pin, that legend is obscured by the wires. The easy way is to take a picture of the connectors so the legends are visible and attach that picture.

Another way is to go ahead on your own. One (or more) of the pins should be labeled something like 5V_SB, STBY_PWR, etc. Other pins will be labeled Gnd, 5V, 12V, etc. And one should be labeled PS_ON, POWER_ON, Main, etc.

These tests will be done with the TV plugged in. Be careful. The purpose is to determine if the problem is the power supply of the main board.

            1. Verify the presence of the standby voltage.

            2. Verify PS_ON goes high - above 3.3 Volts - when the power button is pressed.

            3. Check if all the other pins show the appropriate voltage when the Power button is pressed.

Thanks PlainBill, I'm getting the 5volts where it states on the pins the p-on pin shows nothing as do all the other voltages 12v 29v, the stanby light is flashing red all the time! will check if the p-on pin changes with button press.

              thanks Ronnie

Ok as soon as the mains power is applied the red led on the front blinks slowly! there are no voltages present apart from 5volts, the p-on pin reads 0.025v even if the power button or any button is pressed, am I right in thinking this is logic board related?

                thanks Ronnie

                  That's what I would think.

Iknow its an old thread, but this may help someone in future!
Just had one of the above in for repair, 5v ok no response on ps-on.
top right of logic board is a 24c eeprom, think it was u17, just shorted pins 5 and 6 whilst plugging in power lead and click its on!
