    Digital Lifestyles LCD TV

Hi and thanks for the admin for letting me be part of this forum.

I have a Digital Lifestyles LCD TV, model : LT26407. It doesn't turn on. When you connect the cable to the outlet, you can see that current is there because the standby red light is on, but when I hit the Power Button, the red light blinks to green for a fraction of a second, (goes back to red) and hear a realy click inside the TV.

I did a search on Google and found out that the problem is bad capacitors in the power supply. I removed the back of the TV and took a look at the power supply seeing that 7 CapXon capacitors ( 1000uF, 16V) are domed shaped on top of them. I measured them and according with the rule they are 10mm diam. x 20mm tall.

That site recommend to change them but a higher voltage ones because heatsink is pretty close.

I live in Puerto Rico, Caribbean Sea and ambient temperature is from 80-100 degrees F.

I did a search about caps characteristics and saw the good and bad capacitors manufacturers.

Taking into consideration ambient temperature and quality, should I stick with good brand name caps staying in the 16V or should I pay attention to the recommendation to replace them with higher voltage ones but cheapo brand names.

Here are the options I have to buy 10 caps bag on ebay:

    Brand Voltage Size (mm) Price
    Fuhjyyu 25V 10x20 $ 6.00
    No brand displayed 25V 10x15 $ 6.50
    Sanyo (Ultra Low ESR) 16V 10x16 $ 6.00
    Nichicon 16V 10x13 $ 6.00
    Rubycon 16V 10x20 $ 13.00

The seller of the Rubycons is in US, the other sellers are in China.

According with you knowledge and experience, should I go for the higher voltage bad manufacturers caps or should I stick with the 16v good manufacturers caps?

I include pictures of the power supply for you to see the bad caps.

    thanks.

Capxon does not have a good reputation with forum members here.

Stick with quality low ESR caps like Panasonic FR, FM which you can purchase from digikey.com. Or Rubycon MCZ from badcaps.net at

    https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...products_id=44

DO NOT purchase the cheap caps (regardless of voltage) from questionable sellers on ebay. Some are fakes.

In addition, members will recommend that you replace ALL the caps on the power board except the largest one which rarely, but not never fails (especially if the remaining ones on the power board are Capxon).

retiredcaps, you are right. That powerboard is the same one. By the way, those are the same bad caps I have in my board.

redicaps, you recommend me to use low ESR caps. The one you recommend me is Ultra Low ESR made by Rubycon.

That is excellent but since you recommend the other caps, I would also need 4 caps rated at 470uF, 35V Low ESR which are only available in Samxon.

I've always liked to replace the components from the same brand.

Also Samxon has the 1000uF rated at 25V and the same size 10x20. Rubycon has them in 12.5x20. They are not going to fit.

The Samxon are Low ESR instead of Super Low ESR. Should I stick with Super Low or may I use the Low ones? Thanks.

            Re: Digital Lifestyles LCD TV

"low ESR" and "super low ESR" are pretty loose terms..

ESR means Equivalent Series Resistance and is measured in ohms.
one manufacturer might call a cap with a specific ESR value "low ESR", while another manufacturer calls a cap with the same ESR value "super low ESR"..

anyways.. here's the modified cap list out of that thread (for digikey.com)

            and a clickable list

            P12927-ND
            P11232-ND
            P12353-ND
            P12366-ND
            P12368-ND
            P10301-ND

just don't forget to add the right quantities to your cart
the cap values should be the same on your TV. all the caps listed above are Panasonics (FM or FC series)

There's nothing wrong with mixing different brands as replacements. However, if you want to use the same brand replacements, then write down the CapXon series (KF,GL,etc) that were originally installed and look up the ESR and ripple current values for those caps. The new caps should have a ESR value equivalent or lower than the original CapXon's. And the ripple current should be equal or higher.

Thanks for all your recommendations. I tend to replace the bad ones ( 1000UF, 16V Capxcon) with higher voltage ones (25V) of the same size 10x20. I think they will work perfectly if not please tell me if I shoul stick with the 16V only.

Thanks retiredcaps. I'll buy the 25V since they are the same size.

I ordered the 1,000uF 25V and 470uF 35V caps from badcaps store and installed them in the power supply, and TV turned on finally.

                        Thanks guys for your help.

It turned on fine for a couple of days ago but something happened. I have no picture and no sound.

It doesn't turn on by using the remote control. I have to turn it on by depressing power button( LED light turns green) . I hear the clicking sound when turning it on.

No sound or picture at all

Since remote control cannot communicate with TV, I tried to turn TV off by using the power button with no success, it remained on with green light on. I had to pull power cable from power outlet in order to make it turn off.

Any idea what might be wrong this time with this TV?

Thanks in advance for any comments regarding this.

The first step is to check the output voltages from the psu. Are the voltages labelled, next to the output connectors on the psu?
