    Samsung LCD LE40R86BD firmware update

    Hello!
I got two of these sets with the same fault. After the ordinary secondary capacitor failure, it seems some memory or firmware on the mainboard got corrupt and the sets won't start-up correctly.
The powersupplies are repaired and working (verified in another working set).
So, my question is how it's possible to update the firmware, and in this way try to restore the operation. According to the service manual, I need a special PC software and cable, to perform this.
    Any advice is appreciated.

The odds are that you're not going to find a way to flash this firmware without more hardware. It's probably going to be cheaper just replacing that board. It sucks, trust me I know. I once trashed a monitor for just that reason, but that was only a monitor. Maybe a factory reset possible in a hidden menu??

I know that service menu has a factory reset option, but to reach this I must at least have the screen on for a while...
      That's not possible today, unfortunately.

Something magic occoured when I was trying to power up one of those sets. It began the usual sequence, relay clicking, no picture, when it suddenly came up with a very very dark picture. Though I was directly passing on the service menu and took a good look on several parameters. Obviously the memory was corrupt, since there was a lot of incorrect data, like panel size 26", should be 40", panel maker was incorrect. I poked around for a while, to readjust the obvious stuff, then did a "factory reset".
Set came on, and haven't been possible to get in failure mode ever after
The other, identical set, fails to start the inverter (so this is a completely different problem, though acting just like the first one with a clicking relay)
The inverter gets a power on signal, but as there are no feedback voltage, the inverter is stopped soon. It's a pity I cannot measure higher waveforms than 1500V peak so I don't dare hooking up my o-scope across the HV transformer output. Though, keeping the probe near the transformer reveals a switching waveform which is syncronized with the inverter attempts to start up. But then I don't know. There are a standing board, with a lot of high voltage transformers on it, maybe there are a problem in this area.
        I appreciate any advice,

Maybe that set was worked on before and someone switched the board from a different unit. The board containing the firmware could have been from a 26 and maybe thats enough of a difference in the firing circuit for the CCFL's. Just a guess.
