    magnavox 47mf437b power supply

    Hi folks new comer here.

I recently picked up a magnavox 47mf437b that was left out for the trash near my house. Brought it home plugged her in and alas no power. I took it apart and found 3 bad caps on the scaler board and 1 bad cap on the power supply. I work in IT and am very fimiliar with bad caps and my co-worker has done lots of replacing caps. I had him switch out the caps on the power supply and the scaler board. After he did the power supply he plugged it in to see what would happened and it ended up blowing a transistor, the power supply was not connected to the other components in anyway when this happened, infact the rest of the tv wasn't even at his house. The proper values and voltages were used so probably something else bad on the power supply. So now I am in need of a ADPF24350R1P power supply for magnavox/phillips tv. I found one at shopjimmy but the reviews on their stuff is so so. Wanted to ask you guys where might be a good place to buy a power unit for this guy, prefer a place with a decent return policy incase there is more wrong with this unit.

    Any other advice is welcome
    Thanks
    Ryan

If you could post clear pictures of the board in question (front and back), you should be able to save it still. Use "Manage Attatchments" on the posting page.

The blown transistor will be the first thing that needs replaced then we'll go from there. These are very cheap parts and it's still worth it just to repair that board. Replacing it may cost you about $60 while you can repair it for just under $10 - possibly.

Thanks for your reply. My friend and I discussed the possiblity of changing out the transistor, but since we don't know the history of the tv set we figured it might be best to just look for a new power supply for a decent price.
I'm not out anything if I throw the set away but $5 in caps, and a bit of time. If I can repair a 47 inch 1080p tv for =< $100, I think its worth it. Esp since the tv is only about 3 years old.

Any thoughts on shopjimmy or recommendations on other places I might find this power supply?

        Re: magnavox 47mf437b power supply

If you are in a rush to get it working without spending a lot of money, I'd suggest troubleshooting it more to component level. If you check most of the posts here, you'd find that most people, myself included, have been talked through repairs that took very little effort. Shop Jimmy is a good source for boards however, pricey. If indeed you have localized the problem to that board and that board only, that is an option - however not the best option (by far).

I just looked up a 47 inch LG LCD on HHGregg's website and it comes in at $899. I think it's worth fixing unless repair costs exceed about 25% of the buy cost - but that's me. Of course, If you get the board for about $75 (just a guess) from shop jimmy and it doesnt fix your problem, then you can put the set on Craigslist and sell it for $100 - to profit you about $25. LOL

Being that this power supply is in these models:

          MAGNAVOX 47MF437B
          PHILIPS 47PFL5422D

I'd search this site for either TV and you may find more info on your board.
          Just a suggestion.

If you lived somewhere near Pittsburgh, I'd buy the set from you.

            Re: magnavox 47mf437b power supply

thanks for the dgtech. I opted to buy a power supply instead of trying to fix this one. I could go around and around trying to troubleshoot this one. I figure even at $150 for repair its a steal if it works with a new power supply, I have a newborn and have neither the time nor patience to nit pick the old PS unit.

Is there much of a chance of blowing the new power supply if any other components in the set are bad? If it doesn't work at all thats fine I'm just going to send the PS back but I def don't want to blow a new power supply...

So I got a Philips 47PFL5422D/37 today and the power board is completely dead, no sign of bad caps but the main fuse is blown. I will repair it and post on here which parts I replaced. I guess it would be good to up the voltage sizes of my caps as well so they don't fail later.
