LG 42pg20d plasma tv cracked front panel

Hello, This plasma tv shows a normal picture except for the front glass panel which is cracked like a spider web around the lower part. This panel seems to be 1/4 inch in front of the plasma screen, and appears to be a normal glass panel. Is this just a protective panel? I want to know if I could remove this panel and run the plasma without it? or go to the glaziers with the specs and get them to cut one for me? I have not come accross this before, only cracked LCD screens, which have no hope. Is this a standard practice of plasma TV's? I am green to plasma. Thanks for any replies from plasma experienced reeders.

    Regards:Andy.

I have heard of a glass sheet in front of the plasma panel, but never observed it directly. I would NOT recommend running the TV without the glass sheet in place.

The service mainual and a training manual (Gold!!!) are here. I'd suggest downloading both and see if they give information on replacing the protective glass.

I wouldn't suggest you attempt this unless you have pretty good mechanical skills. Videotaping the disassembly process would be a good idea. If nothing else, you could post it on You-Tube. Hopefully people would be watching it in admiration rather than to see a train wreck of failure.

The front glass on plasma tvs are special emr filters to block/reduce the radiation that is coming out of the screen. Some of the newer plasma have the emr filter built into the panel itself and do not use the front glass. There are places that sell front glass but it runs $200 and over depending on the model. You would be better off looking for a cheap non-working or broken tv of the same model to replace the glass.

Note that newer plasma TVs no longer have guard glass anymore. So this damage is higher like the LCD were.

          Hi All,

We've got a HP Envy 12th gen that has been dropped and the LCD panel itself has cracked. The glass is fine just the panel itself is cracked. We ordered a replacement screen assembly using the part number off the HP part surfer website.
Upon installation the touch screen now does not work either in UEFI or win 11. Device manager under the "intel Precise touch and Stylus) menu notes "This device cannot start (code 10) Status_Device_Power_Failure".

I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the driver, uninstalling...

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
          by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
          by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

          tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

          by Storyteller12
I had a the above tv qn55q60r that had a bad panel but everything else good. I had another panel here from un55nu6900 with bad leds and melted diffusers.

I put the nu6900 panel in and powered it up and it does work but there are lines vertical lines.

I was trying to change the panel type in the service menu but don’t see my exact panel. Anyway to fix this or someone have similar experience.

the clear picture is the panel type from the service menus on the nu6900. The other 1 is the panel type that was set for the q60r with the bad panel....
