    Appearing blue pixels on Sony LCD

    Just seeing if it's worth picking up this tv or not to fix. I found a few sites that say it's the panel going bad and to avoid. Thoughts?

    For $50. Hmmm.... I'd think that the power supply is good and should sell for about $50 or more. Then theres the remote - $25. A lot of work for a small profit for stripping this thing down. Go with the gut feeling. Leave it alone. If it is a bad panel, the only way you'd know is by swapping out the boards attatched to it with new ones. That could get costly. Swapping this large panel out would be even more costly. If you can get it for $10, strip it down and sell parts on ebay such as: Power board, IR board, audio board etc... the ones you know for sure are good in this case.

      There is at least one bit of misinformation there, probably more. What's the model number? Sony made very few 65" LCD TV models, and I can't see how a lamp could be causing blue dots. If it's an LCD rear projection (I'm not sure if Sony made any of them), definitely leave it alone.

        If it don't work perfect it is not worth anything.. market is full of 5-10 year old big screens that do work.. broken ones are junk .. at least till we fixem! Sit on it.. it will be free soon enough!

          Ya, the picture is hard to tell if it's a DLP or an LCD, cause I didn't think LCDs had "Lamps" only projections did. I requested the model number from him and a picture of what it's doing. I'm thinking of maybe offering $20 for it if it's an LCD and then just gut the sucker. My aunt works for a garbage company and I can give stuff to her and she takes it for me.

            AFIK, Sony produced all four - DLP, LCD rear projection (looked like you were viewing the picture through a screen door), a 3-LCD rear projection, and a true flat panel LCD. The very limited information I have says that the only 65" TV they produced was a flat panel LCD. As such, it would definitely be worth $50 if it's not a bad panel. Or maybe even if it is a bad panel.

            I grew up in Minnesota; left in '81. How's the weather up there in the Midwest? We're going to be suffering with 75° here today.

              Oh it's been great! It's a steamy 20-30 degrees here this week. (Compared to our -20's last week). I don't mind the winter now when I'm somewhat young, because I like to snowmobile and snowboard, but ya, when I get older I might be going down south for the winter.

              Still haven't heard from the LCD guy. So figuring someone picked it up already. Oh well, next project!
