To the OP, Try looking through the vents on the back of the TV. You may be able to see the brightness of the backlights (this may be easier in a dark room). Do the backlights go out, do they get dim, or do they retain the same brightness?

Re: sony kdl-32l5000 nice picture after 10m goes dark no picture
Since the thread has seemed to have died hopefully I can revive it. I am having the exact same issue, except it takes about 30 minutes to happen. The back light is completely out and the color fluxes just before it shuts off. The shut off literally takes a couple of seconds. I would suspect inverter but one of the heat sinks on the power board gets excessively hot and the longer it is left off the longer it will stay on the next time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let's start with the pictures, please. Use "Manage Attachments" and post the following (as close to 2000 x 2000 as you can): one of the entire back with the cover off (overall shot), top/bottom of the power board and top/bottom of the logic board.

I agree on the pictures. One over-all shot so we can see what is connected where, and top and bottom of the power supply with the overheated heat sink tagged.

Hi there, since NO-ONE can give you an educated answer, I'll help you out.
You will need to replace BOTH backlight Inverter boards (if your model has 2)
Generally when one goes, the other one won't be far from dying. The backlight shutting down is due to the inverter switching itself off (overcurrent/overvoltage protection). The transformers on the inverter boards break down with time & temp and can give problems such as flickering, NO backlight, or a few seconds then turning off.
Here's one on ebay - it's for the KDL-32L4000 but should fit your model. Ask the seller first tho.

Let's see the pics, then go to the much cheaper and more fun component level first. Only after much thought should we draw the "R" word out of the holster.....
